Hi all,
Just took the plunge (again) and bought an 81 931 on ebay. I say "again" because I used to own a RHD 81 931 around 12 years ago when I was living in Singapore.
This car is located 2500 miles from home and I'm debating whether to have it shipped or fly there and drive it home myself. Any thoughts?

We all know the PO says its a daily driver and in great shape, etc, etc but that's a hell of a long shakedown run IMHO. It's not a car you can just pop into the local parts store on the way and get parts. (Plus I'm a wuss and have no interest in driving cross country.) You may be more adventurous.
That's the "batman" car? _________________ 1982 931- Stock with MBC at 8psi
Relax, all right? My old man is a television repairman, he's got this ultimate set of tools. I can fix it. |

If I decide to drive it back, it'll probably be with a box full of spare parts
Yes, that's the one - the "batman" car.

If it has fresh timing belt, alternator, water pump, cooling hoses and drive belts, I say drive it. _________________ Toofah King Bad

I wouldn't do it, we drive 1800 miles from Wisconsin to Arizona then back again. We always have an issue or two each trip. And, I know the truck we use real well! You won't. _________________ '83 944 Track car.

Yup, Euro model, right hand drive. Those are Singapore plates. I lived there for 6 years.

What kind of issues have you had? I've done a couple of round trips from Arizona to Vancouver and a 2700 mile one way trip from Boston to Arizona in the past year and only had 1 flat tire. None of that was in a 34 year old car though...
I know the smart thing would be to just ship it but if I only did smart things, I probably wouldn't have bought the car in the first place

Well, it's mainly hauling related issues, trailer flats, crap flying out of the truck, and then three years ago, the tranny went out on the truck. Spendy fix in the middle of nowhere. But, did 800 miles in the 911 once, no problems. _________________ '83 944 Track car.
