Well, now I really want to help you....
Is the cooling fan running? If not it could be the fan, the relay, the temp switch or a bad electrical contact.
Have you checked that the radiator is evenly warm to determine if there is any internal blockage? Just check with your hand to see if the heat is different from the top to the bottom. If so, a radiator shop can repair it for you better than new.
Is your lower engine tray in place? Does the engine cool down once youre moving again?
Are you losing any coolant? Did you bleed it properly?
It's not rocket surgery, just old car shit. Get off the Internet and roll up your sleeves. _________________ Stefan

I roll up my sleeves and get dirty a lot I just like to know other ways of figuring out a solution because there ways might be better then mine is all
The fan is working properly.. And yes it cools down when I am moving when I can stay at a steady speed but in the city it doesn't have enough time to cool down but on the high way or a long stretch of road with no stops it cools down Good and I will have to check the radiator to see if it is evenly heated I hadn't thought about a blockage in the radiator thank you for your help I really appreciate it! _________________ In love with my 1977 924 |

My goodness. Your first mistake may be relying on the factory gauge. Get a pyrometer and shoot the head, radiator tanks and water neck to verify it is actually overheating. Our temp gauges suck.
If it is overheating, assuming the water pump is good, most likely culprit is poor flow through the rad. _________________ Toofah King Bad

Only have one fan though? Could be part of the problem.
If it cools with moderate airflow (say, 30mph plus), then your problem is associated with the fan function.
If it can't cool at that speed, then you have a cooling system problem (as in, the actual coolant and plumbing).
One fan without a shroud won't be enough to cool the car off in traffic/low speed. You need the stock shrouding, and 1 or 2 fans.
Too much ignition advance or too lean will of course cause it to run hotter as well. _________________ Vaughan Scott
