|
|
I have a UK spec S2 turbo. The wastegate is is reasonable condition but it has the wrong spring and is dumping a lot of boost. It is looking near to impossible to find out what the correct spring is and even harder to locate one.
Only alternative might be to buy an aftermarket 930 wastegate if I can get one with a 10 psi spring.
Does anyone know where I might be able to buy an aftermarket 930 wastegate or any other solution?
Thanks

Tial waste gates are often used on modified 930's. But as suggested on 924ownersclub, check your current boost pressure and spend less than £100 on an adjustable boost controller to get more boost if its currently dumping too low. No need for a new spring or indeed a new waste gate _________________ 1980 931 - forged pistons, Piper cam, K27/26 3257 6.10 hybrid turbo, 951 FMIC, custom intake, Mittelmotor dizzy & cam pulley, H&S exhaust, GAZ Gold, Fuch'ed, Quaife

Pointless doing anything else until you've fitted a boost gauge.
Even if you do buy a new wastegate with 10psi spring it won't necessarily give you 10psi - you need a way to check.
Agree with the above advice - don't bother messing with springs, just fit a decent manual boost controller from Ideola or JMG Garage.
You need to know your current boost level. _________________ 1979 UK 932 |

Do a WTB on Pelican for a 930 spring...you'll come up with one. _________________ Toofah King Bad

Amen. I bought a 0.8 bar 930 spring a few years ago. In my car it produced only roughly 0.55 bar. I switched back the original spring and got 0.65 bar again. Then, after installing Carrera GT turbo and IC, the boost gauge showed 0.7 bar. With the original 0.65 bar spring that is.

I wish these boost controllers would be decent... Well I'm not talking about for example Ideola's MBC's but in general level. I have tried two different ball+spring -type controllers and in the lowest setting they usually give so much boost that the overboost switch kicks in (1.2 bar?) . After modifying the spring on the other one I was able the get lower boost readings. So always be careful if you try these controllers. _________________ Mikko

The problem with most modern boost controllers is the small bore and our old school wastegates need lots of air/boost to operate. I have a similar air regulator from JMG as Ideolas running at least 6mm internal diameter. Works just fine from 0.7bar to 1.2bar. PS I disconnected the overboost switch as it cuts fuel, which is not good. _________________ 1980 931 - forged pistons, Piper cam, K27/26 3257 6.10 hybrid turbo, 951 FMIC, custom intake, Mittelmotor dizzy & cam pulley, H&S exhaust, GAZ Gold, Fuch'ed, Quaife

| Well guy's I am running a 69.95 waste gate from Taco/Taco for a toyotaSupra 40mm in and exh. had to change flanges both sides but worth it. it pulls a 13-15lbs pull all the time, with a 160 deg thermostat and the underbelly on it with a Naca duct installed on it also to channel air to the Turbo, runs perfect on 89 oct. My ride. Tony Griffin |

Turbosmart 2 stage boost controller works like a charm. Easy to set and a blast to flip to high once the ambient temp drops _________________ 1979 Euro 931, Olive
