|

Trying to remove my external (inline) fuel pump but the 90 degree banjo fitting is completely seized/rusted onto the fuel pump screw in fitting. I cranked on it to break it free but the threaded insert is what turned and the banjo fitting arm hits the screw terminals which stops it from spinning any further.
Any ideas or tips to get this removed? I've thought about taking my grinder and just grinding down the screw terminals about 1/8" which would let me remove the fuel pump but then I'm still left with a completely seized fitting.
I'd like to replace the entire banjo fitting but not sure how far up under the car it goes or if this is an easily replicated part to make? I see the fuel line goes up and there is a clamp that holds it to the under body above the transaxle area.
Any suggestions or tips? _________________ [This Space For Rent] |

In a very hard to reach area, might have to remove tranny, can't recall, you can substitute the really old factory rubber with this:
It's a 14mm (return) and 17mm (pressure line) to -6AN fitting, then the new hose. You can strip out the old line at the barbed fitting on your banjo setup, and use a EFI hose clamp. I have a pic of both hoses somewhere, and I have the fittings and hose if you want. dave _________________ '83 944 Track car.

The banjo fitting on the pump is not a barbed fitting is it? It is metal and then has rubber hose crimped on it like high pressure hydraulic lines.
Hoping we dont have to pull the trans _________________ [This Space For Rent] |

Not sure. I might have used a banjo from an N/A, which does have that barbed end. I don't have my 924S on the rack any longer to check. _________________ '83 944 Track car.

So I grinder one of the terminals down, spun the pump off and with a night of soaking the fittings with every type of bolt loosening fluid I had, I was able to get better leverage and break it free. New pump in, took a football game break now though. _________________ [This Space For Rent] |
