Sorry, no alternative sensor has been found as far as I'm aware despite contact to Porsche, bosch and Siemens. Various tests on current crank sensor and no conclusive results on what signal the DITC box is looking for from the sensor, at least here in the UK. This path has been trodden dozens of times by people who need a sensor. Would love to see a solution as working ones will only become more rare

Pic of the Mittelmotor distributor fitted on my engine can be seen on this thread http://www.924board.org/viewtopic.php?t=34690&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=360 The black rubber bung on the front of it covers the mini USB socket for tuning advance and retard via laptop. This dizzy allowed me to run more boost without any knock compared to my stock S1 distributor. Engine runs more consistently and much smoother

@Steve: your car looks absolutely stunning!!
Does the Mittelmotor kit comes with all the parts??
Finetuning needs BHP readings etc.. Is it standardised in the Mittelmotor kit?

It's a plug and play distributor. Mittelmotor will load a starting map to get going. Further fine tuning can be done on the dyno or road via a laptop.

Steve......sounds awfully impressive.

What exactly is the 'starting map' like......just driveable, or OEM settings. or ? Does Mittelmotor then provide a program, or how does it work?

Michael at Mittelmotor can provide maps to suit the car it's being fitted to. However it's still best to fine tune to your own application. I'm running the same map as their GTS race car. You can have two maps installed on the dizzy and live switched between them.

Cranksensor arrived from UK.... And I do have to say: I have now the possibility to get another 3, all in range between 150 and 400 GBP (!!!)
Anyway, hope to get the car fixed this week, I will keep you posted.
Thanks again to all whom replied via forum and PM, you all were a big big help!

Since yesterday the car runs! With a total rebuild ignition based on original specs...
What a beast to drive..
Next phase will be Airco repair, electric window passenger side and some other small challenges.
Again, many thanks all for the support and leads!
