I noticed a bunch of 944 guys on Rennslist foaming over this being on sale for $100 right now and see that according to the website it is valid for our 924S's also.
http://www.powerprom.com/
Just wondering if anyone here has heard of or has experience with a Wilks Chip in their 924S?

They're good as long as you're willing to pony up for premium fuel.

Shouldn't I be putting in premium fuel regardless??

The website doesn't provide much instruction; is it as simple as "plugging it in" and go? Any additional risk of mechanical failure/wear using something like this that you're aware of? Thanks!

I bought an FR Wilk chip a few years ago for my 924S.

It advances the timing and increases the rev limiter. The engine sounds much different when it is activated. There is a little jumper cable that you install on an unused DME box connector that activates it. Just remove the jumper, and it goes back to stock. Or you could wire a dash switch to the jumper to turn it on.

You have to disassemble the DME box to install the chip, but it's not very difficult. It comes with instructions, or you can refer to the Clark's Garage website.

I usually run it in "FR Wilk Mode" when driving on the track. It hasn't seem done any harm to my 90k+ mile engine yet.

$100 is cheap compared to what I paid for it.

Cool, thanks for the info. I've ordered mine and will report back on the "experience", weather permitting!

Yes, please do. I would plop down $100 for better fuel economy under 3500rpm and performance above. Which chip did you order?

And, dear God, that site makes my eyes bleed...

So, having received my chip in winter I put it somewhere "safe" intending to install in nicer weather after i'd put some miles on the car. Needless to say it was missing for many months...
Found my "safe" place again a week or so back and installed it today. I've drove this car a little over 1k miles sofar without the chip.
It did start, didn't blow-up and doesn't "seem" to sound any different idling to me. I'll report back after I get a chance to drive it some with chip.

Took her on about 100 miles worth of twistys with Mid-Ohio Region PCA this weekend. Only 924 in attendance I might add!

Anyway, drove great, kept up great. Been about 400 miles since I put the Wilks chip in. I feel a noticeable difference from idle to about 30mph or so, feels a decent deal more responsive making for more enjoyable city driving. I don't notice any difference in speeds higher than that though. Noticeable increase in acceleration from a dead stop.
Well worth the $100 I paid.

This is pretty much how it feels in my early 944 too. More low end grunt, so much more that one doesn't have to imagine things. On higher speeds it is harder to detect the difference though. I still like how amazingly smoothly it revs up to the red line. FR Wilk is a pretty decent chip.

My old daily driver now goes from 80 - 140km/h in approximately seven seconds. Not that bad actually considering it is an old four cylinder N/A.

I think this is his main site:

http://www.the944.com/

The site for ordering chips appears to be down, but you could try emailing him:
