Had the first race of the new club season on Sunday at Hampton Downs. The car ran faultlessly all day (apart from a stutter around the tightest left hander that I already knew about) and I knocked more than a second off my previous best time at the track. As this was my goal for the end of the season I've already had to adjust my goals .

It was a good shake down for the new Rotary Racing Enthusiasts class that starts in a few weeks time. Can't wait

The first round of the Rotary Racing Enthusiasts class was fantastic. Qualifying was wet and cut short by an RX7 driving into a wall, so I managed to qualify 4th ahead of some much faster cars. It was dry for all the races, and I finished 9th in the 1st race and 2nd in the handicap race on Saturday afternoon. The Porsche seems to get better traction off the line than the Mazdas, and seems to be a bit quicker in the corners than most of the field, but I'm certainly under powered to a lot of them. Reduced my personal best by another 3 tenths.
Before Sunday mornings race I added another half a degree of -camber up front, and knocked another second off my time! Got another 2nd place, and almost pulled off the win - only 0.2 seconds in it!

Better quality pics on the way soon!

2nd round today - qualified 4th and finished 5th in the first (dry) race.

The second race started wet and got worse as it went on, and the little Porsche proved itself against all the Mazdas - almost 2 seconds quicker a lap than the next fastest and a clear win - this car is so much fun to drive in the wet

The third race was a handycap and the track had completely dried up again. I worked my way into the lead by the 3rd lap and just managed to hang on for my second win .

Woohoo! Congrats and a nice drive. Show those 924 design-stealing RX7s a thing or two.

Enjoyed this! Some of those Mazada's don't look that old, well done.

Keep up the good work.

Thanks for the encouraging comments!

We've just had a round at the Taupo track, where I was totally outclassed by most in the field. It's a power track with some very long straights (one almost 1km long), and I was about 10 seconds a lap slower than most of them in qualifying.

Here's a video of the start of the 1st race showing the tighter 1st sector of the track. You'll notice how they pull away from me out of the corners, so imagine what the back straight felt like!!

I managed a 4th and a 2nd place in the handicap races, but you can see from this video how much of a handicap I needed (some of the cars had to start from the pits!!).

I still had a lot of fun, and the guys in the series are brilliant to race with. Next round is back at my favourite track, and I'll be hoping for a bit more rain
