1979 - 80 Porsche 924 K26 - 6406 Turbocharger (Center Core Section)

it is the right compressor (2664) for my cold housing but my cold housing is scuffed a little on the inside.

my core is toast.. done.. nada..

its either that new core into my housings (broken bolts in hot housing)

buy one for $300 from ideola and hope it lasts a while

or I can buy one that needs rebuilt but good core for 100 and have it rebuilt..

cant find a k26/8 951 turbo in my budget range

im so sick of research its pathetic and digging out the turbo core I have and proving its f'd was disheartening..

If your hot side housing is not cracked, you can remove the broken studs. I had this problem and drilled out the stud, bought a 12mm tap and cleaned the threads, bought a new stud, and worked great. You have to match the innards with the outer though, 4.10 or 6.10 hot side housing.

You know if cash isn't an issue. Score the one for a hundred bones and send it off to get rebuilt.

cash is an issue
I will get it but slowly
I have plenty of other little things to do to the car that shouldn't cost me much so I can make progress without a lot of money but im still waiting for the ice to melt somewhat, the tarp over the car has 5 inches of ice holding it to the ground and I cant just cut it off cause it leaks.
so just kinda biding my time waiting on cash and warmer weather

disappointing/disheartening contact from turbo shop just now....

there worried about the seal rings maybe having come into contact with the turbine wheel, stepped shaft, womped out bearing journals in the housing etc..

and they haven't even tore it apart yet..

I don't see how the rings in the housing could contact the turbine wheel because there is quite a space for the heat shield inbetween them..

they seem like there trying to get me to upgrade to a modern turbo, maybe there tyring to scare me into buying a new one..

almost makes me sick, I cant afford to beat around the bush and buy another "hopefully" rebuildable core...

Nothing wrong with a second opinion.

Maybe Majestic Turbo in Texas?

Contact Ideola Fastfreddie and hope that it lasts .... I know on mine the hot side turbine wheel needs to be replaced at the least.

Did you see this?

http://www.924board.org/viewtopic.php?t=25655

sounds like the shaft from other KKK turbos may work, certainly the one used on the 951 (K26/6 and K26/.

You can bolt your 931 turbo exhaust housing to a 951 turbo, provided it is the later 951 turbo, from the 250hp 951.
