|
|
Just got a 924S and noticed that a hose coming out of the top of the air cleaner box was cracked.
This end of the hose was just cracked, thought I could just replace it, then I found where the hose ends up.
Unless I'm crazy this hose goes from the air cleaner box to the timing belt cover. I don't quite understand what the point of this is, finding a replacement wasn't too hard but the only description of this hose I can find is... "hose"...
The piece wasn't attached at the bottom at all because part of the belt cover had broken off inside so I removed it to look the part up.
Can anyone tell me what this is and if this is something I can fix/get fixed? _________________ 1987 924S

It is a breather hose from the cam belt cover. If parts of the belt cover have broken off and MAY be inside with the belts, that is not a comfortable situation, remove the cover and clean out the bits. _________________ 1984 n/a Ruby Red Metallic

They did a similar thing on the twin dizzy 911's. There is a belt driving the second dizzy off of the first and they have a tube connected to inside of the left rear light to allow for ozone to escape the enclosed space. The buildup of gasses and heat is not good for the belts, this kinda helps lengthen the life of the belts.
I would check to see if there are any cracked bits in there. There is usually tight clearances in these spaces.
cheers. _________________ Ian Edgerly
