Ideola,

I think your points are all good ones. I actually have considered doing a D Production replica with your carb set instead of a CGT, Likely a similar investment, but maybe a bit more unique, and more room for "artistic license"!

Or an 86 951! Toofah rear quarters and flares, 931 header panel and CGT scoop, DONE! Correct early interior, factory Fuchs, etc.

I know, I know. . .not a "correct" replica, but would be cool nonetheless!

I did think of that, the problems are '86 951 has the oval dash interior. Also, the turbo nose panel is different than the N/A, so you would have to fab all that. AND the readily available CGT fixed headlights are all for N/A cars, it is different again for the turbo fro t end. There is someone working on lights like this for turbos. But otherwise, you are looking at swapping all the front sheet metal and nosepiece.

About the best part is 86 was the last year (only year turbo) with the early non-ABS offset (even non ABS post 1986 944s have the different offset) so you can run Fuchs on the 86.

Beyond that, it would actually be more work than converting a 931.

951 GTS buckets. Done.

Some filler work to get the fiberglass GTS bumper cover to match the 951 nose panel. Done.

Oval dash has been swapped into the early cars with some work. Swapping the other way should be similar in efforts.

Or just stick with the oval dash since it isn't meant to be a perfect copy and focus on streamlining and replicating the door panels, center console, windows, seats, etc.

Personally? I'd try to mix and match to get the best/more enjoyable features of the various models to come up with your own interpretation (Like Morghen, Raceboy, Ideola and others have done). Just my opinion and in the long run, the GT/GTS grew into the 951, so you're kind of already there in some respects.

Yeah, Im pretty much going down that road already, mods galore.

I am very content with leaving the toofah ( or returning to ) 100% factory, since it's a daily driver now.

Ill think on it all, maybe just get another N/A 924 and start the ultimate D production build. Well, Dan is way ahead of me on that!

3 old Porsches...not sure how the wife would react to that. Any advice?

Option 1: buy her a puppy
Option 2: buy her a kitten
Option 3: buy her a new kitchen
Option 4: buy her her own Porsche

If none of that works, your screwed.

1. We have 4 dogs, 3 cats, a tortoise, and 4 chickens and a fish, option 1 is a no-go.

2. See #1 above.

3. May work, but will dampen budget for Porsche #3

4.She already hates the first two, she is very practical. Porsches are not so much.

I may be screwed.

THAT car has been my inspiration from the start of my 951 owning career. I even may paint mine that color someday. The thing is, I had never seen pics of the engine bay. I thought it was a 924 or 924S based car.

Well, there you have it. Thanks for posting that. Any info on the build?

Oh my God, now I have to get out the grinder, cut off my 944 rear quarters, rwplace them in fiberglass, and add CGT flares I better get busy.

Don't have any info on the car. I found the pictures but there wasn't any description.

You don't necessarily need to use fiberglass. I replaced mine with quarters from a 1986 924S. (my car started out as a 1984 944)

That yellow 951 is either '88 or '89. It was originally red. I've seen it live and it is pretty cool. Well built! You could send me your email address and I could forward it to the owner. I think he doesn't follow this board but is active in local finnish Porsche forum. Maybe he could give you some tips.

Why don't more people think like this? The 951 is the refined development of the carrera gt. just give it a retro body tweak. If my 86 951 ever gets in a fender bender I might just do this for fun.

Hgo,

I would love to, but finances just wont allow it yet. I have a couple kids coming up on college, so a real one will have to wait, barring some unknown pending financial windfall.

Do you have any photos?

Jeff

This is a really nice CGT conversion that has been up for sale before. I think it's worth every penny of the $3500 asking price, although it doesn't have the CGT TMIC. It's still intercooled and from what I've seen of pix, the body work has been really nicely executed:

It's a good thing it's not closer because I'd have a really hard time resisting if it were within a 8-12 hour drive.

Here's another one with a CGT body kit, but only an NA under the hood.
