The 924/944 interior light is the same part that was used in many VW cars.
I believe that around 1988, VW began installing a light with a circuit board that allowed the light to remain on for about eight seconds after the door switch is opened.
It's a nice feature to see around you for a short time after you close the door.
It fits in the 924/944 without alteration (if I recall). The only difference is the plug.
If you snag the light from a wrecked/scrapped Jetta, snip the wires before the plug and just match the colours when installing.
I drive a 1992 Jetta that already had the light from the factory. My previous Jetta was an '87, which did not, but I quickly installed one from the later cars. I just checked my wife's '88 and it has the newer light, although I may have installed that one.
I'm currently restoring a '91 that has the newer light, so I know they all had them from at least 91.
I used to know for sure, but the memory is fading fast...
I wish I had a part number, but I just checked a spare and even the one in my '92 and the only identifying characters are the VW/Audi logos and the hELLA logo.
I remember installing one in the '77 924 I had and also the '83 944. _________________ Race car: my favourite palindrome.

Rasta Monsta gave me an LED unit that fits in place of the stock bulb. Seems to work quite nicely and won't drain the battery if you leave the door open or the dome light on
Perhaps a combination of the two would be an almost ideal solution? _________________ Stefan

So does it have a capacitor that stores the juices after the light loses power? _________________ Toofah King Bad

The light is always hot, just needs a ground. _________________ White 87 924S "Ghost"
