I decided that because it was nice and sunny and warm(ish) outside I would take the 924 out for a quick blast, and wash it when I got home. While out on the drive, I signalled and the wipers started working !!! Weird. So I turned the wipers off and back on, nothing happened until I turned another corner and they came on again !!!

I am thinking that after everything I have done, aside from going through the all the wiring and testing the wiper motor, I am thinking that the switch is bad. Can any one confirm this or hear about this happening?

Oh and I have another quick question.
I picked up a wrap around Foha rear spoiler. The nuts are broken but I think I can get it on if I use the correct adhesive. Any suggestions on a good strong adhesive?

Cheers and happy 924 weather.

Hi Mike,

Sounds like you need a new multi-function switch. The turn-signal switch can be had here for little money:
PartsGeek have asked us to remove links to their site (it's a Google thing). Copy and paste this address into your browser:

partsgeek.com/mmparts/turn_signal_switch/porsche/924.html

As for the adhesive, have a look here: http://mbworld.org/forums/w211-amg/398825-installing-trunk-spoiler-3m-tape-urethane-adhesive.html

hahahahaha, now that is funny. I JB welded a spot on the vinyl runners under
the doors. I could not get it to fit flush so in one spot I used JB weld.

Spats are the black vinyl at the back of the rear wheels. Spats are also the covering over mens shoes around the 20s. I have heard it used referring to
coverings on the rear wheel openings. The screws rotted and I removed the base of the screw and JB welded a bolt to the backs of the piece that now fits in the proper hole. Easy fix.

Getting old as I don't remember posting it twice. But the response sure got me laughing.

What what was the question?

Lol thanks for the clarification on that Ponz.

I did laugh a bit when Rasta mentioned you posted it twice and that I should have known.

I think I am going to try the 3m double-sided adhesive for the spoiler. Maybe even try my hand at a how to for it. You never know.

That FOHA spoiler is a solid and heavy piece. Remove the metal parts that are rotted, clean well and JB weld a similar size bold to it in the same hole.
It is slightly difficult to remove the rotted metal because some of it is under the rubber.
Being these cars are old metal tends to rot and replacing the metal is difficult.
On the spoiler where you cannot see the missing screws [bottom or back]simply put a hole in it and use a bolt and washer to hold it on.

Thanks for the info Ponz, I appreciate that. I will look into it and see if I can make that work.

So I took the 924 out to the Porsche Specialist here in Ottawa. We did an oil change, brake fluid flush, and rebuilt the wiper switch. We also played with the Distributor and the air/gas mixture to even out the idle and get it to start on the first turn when cold.

So upshot of all that is the car is just about track ready. With fresh brake fluid and clean oil its good there. Unfortunately we found that even after rebuilding the wiper switch the wipers still dont want to work!! ARGH!!!! After a bit more searching we found that the ground wire is carrying 12 Volts and none of the other wires are. So now it is time to find out why that is the way it is.

In all a good afternoons work. I just want (and need) the wipers working so that we can get the safety done.

Bad ground in the ground crown behind the fuse box? That's where the wiper motor is grounded.

Same thing is happening to me! Now I can use this thread to figure it out instead of having to troubleshoot all by myself

Well if for no other reason start with the motor and go from there.
Right now I am just waiting for a new wiper switch. Should be here soon.

Good luck with the wipers.
