Do I need both doors wide open to get the dashboard out of the car? I have no room on the passenger side to open the door more than a few inches whilst in the garage.

No you should be good. Unbolt it from underneath on both sides and in the middle. Should pull out the driver's side. Easier if you remove the steering wheel.
Enjoy.

It won't come out at all unless you remove the steering wheel. I did mine with only enough room to open the drivers door and I had no problems. It's easier to get to the bolts if you remove the passenger seat, ditto with the drivers seat.

Thanks, If I work up the courage to get it done I can at least do it in the garage.

Don't forget A pillar pads. . .there are dash screws under them.

You can also lay the seats down and turn it to remove out the hatch. Definitely remove the steering wheel and a-pillar trim.

Just watch out to make sure you don't let the material flex too much on removal. It will be quite brittle due to age and sunlight exposure.

Sweet demotivator Rasta. I might have to print that out for the garage.

I'm mostly worried about breaking 30yo plastic tabs on the vents and such.. I took the gauges out when I got the car to fix the odometer and I remember the 2 piece plastic cover on the ignition switch was a bitch to get off. I'm hoping that if the entire dash is coming out that maybe that part can stay on.

Don't sweat the vents. 924S ones fit and are 10x nicer. . .just collect them ahead of time.

Ok, I'm getting braver by the day and just might get this done soon. Are there any WYIT things to do?

Replace heater core, replace or lube HVAC fan, de-oxidize grounds, A/C delete, replace gauge "bulbs" with LEDs, repack steering shaft bearing. . .

In my case it was a little bit easier just unbolt the dash and lift it away (no roof) heh

So I said f@#k it, took off my skirt, and went outside to work on this after the kids went to bed. The old dash is out with only a few casualties (broken vents). Apparently I've done most of this work before (console, steering wheel, gauges, etc) but just not all at once. It's very straight forward job and I had already labeled and taken pictures of all the wiring. The new dash has been test fitted and its a bit tight as I expected but it will fit. The recovered dash vinyl doesn't match the doors vinyl now and it might make me nuts but only time will tell. The recover job itself is just OK but it was at an OK price so I didn't expect too much out of it.
So the easy part is done, now I have to put all this crap back together.
