Right, we finally pushed 0005 out of the corner of the garage where she's been sat waiting for parts and for a space in our restoration workshop as we're hoping to crack on with her in the new year...
And we had a closer look at the spec and how she differs from the other 6 * 924 T we have sitting around the workshop!
Firstly, you will recall she has a very expensive ignition system in her:
Which we've got working I believe now.... which is good as we've been told it's the same as used in the 956 Le Mans car and is worth over Euro 4k. _________________ 5 * 924 Turbo!

You'll also note that the system is in the drivers footwell!
I already mentioned she's the only known 924T with alloy doors on her... but photos of a magnet not sticking are not exciting really...
So moving onto a cool detail we hadn't spotted until Friday... the rear spoiler is made of fibreglass, not the traditional rubber!
you can see where the black paint is rubbing off slightly...
Also when we found her, we couldn't confirm what we had until the seller found the Werks-spec dashboard that came with her... identical to the car in Sinsheim (the Monte car from '80, her older sister).
Both cooool details.... more to follow... plus a mystery! _________________ 5 * 924 Turbo!

Another good give-away that this is a Werks built car is that the cage extends all the way to the rear. This was done on all (both?) cars built after the Safari of '79 according the Herr Barth because on that rally they basically broke the back ends off the cars on the jumps/bumps!
And this shot shows how the fibreglass spoiler is fitted and the cage
Cage is as usual Heigo:
Although it is alloy, which is now illegal so we'll never be able to compete in her properly again unless we replace it... but hey ho... she's probably too valuable for that anyway. _________________ 5 * 924 Turbo!

You'll recall we only currently have 1 pic of the car competing:
So it's nice to be able to tick off the similarities with that photo (other than the old registration doc)
Firstly the old spot light mounting points:
Exactly as in the photo... note the lump on the headlight... some system of pinning them upright must have been used as there are no mechanisms...
and look at the airscoop fitted the other side!:
and a better shot of the whole cage:

A shot of those fabulously dangerous wheel arches:
And a close up of Herr Ristl's name and the faded Pirelli stickers:
Would love some photo's of the car rallying in these colours in her post-Werks life... anyone???
better shot of the odd red sticker on the side... anyone any clue what it's for? Some sort of car club I'd guess... "RKV Lomersheim"?

You'll recall I mentioned that she runs a seriously beefed up gearbox with a 911 LSD in it and much bigger driveshafts???
Well she also has completely different brakes on her... note the position of the calipers on the discs, lower front and back and also on the front, she's running alloy calipers... pretty expensive in era.
Sorry shot thru the wheel, wasn't fast enough with the photo!
And the rears:

Something else you can't do these days... the fuel pump etc is in the passenger compartment for easy access.
Finally, I promised you all a mystery!
Take a look at these stickers:
And you'll note that they are in a stamped dent in each side of the car.
Now if you look closely on the inside (poor photo I know)... you'll see that there was a small circle welded over what must have been a hole in the bodywork. It's identical each side and perhaps it's from some test equipment when this shell was a working prototype? Anyone any clues?
Also, anyone got a decent shot of the sister car in Sinsheim to see is she has the same??
Hope that's all of interest??
Cheers

Finally, she's running full coil over suspension, so it's interesting to see just how high off the ground she sits:
and front
And those wheels are 16 inch Fuchs in case anyone was wondering!

The round circles that have the yellow stickers are the mounting points for the US market side markers. _________________ White 1983 924 - Renovated to near original condition and my daily driver

US spec side reflectors is an answer I wasn't expecting! But seems right... so mystery solved there...
Will see if we have any more photos.... but car pushed back into the corner for a bit until it's her turn for restoration so I think that's all for now.
Thought about dripping the photos out each day... but decided that was just cruel!
Cheers
