Looks really tidy, arent many left in that condition. Cant be so hard to get that unmolested car running nicely, no aftermarket alarm, cut n pasted wires etc etc.

If I bought that I would directly swap that expansion tank out for a new one. Bought a new one from porsche(not so expensive) and it really makes a big difference to the appearence.

unfortunately after long and very helpful PPI by local porsche shop, this car is alot worse than I had hoped. He never got it running.
even tho the miles are low and it is a true one owner car, it has sat alot more than they told me and it was outside alot more than they have told me.

With the mechanics help we decided it was a long $hot to get it to be a reliable driver even if the car was free. I am disapointed.....
it is listed on Craig's in the Denver, CO list if anyone else wants it.

I am thinking about a 924S now....Thanks for all the nice help.

I bet anyone on this board that has worked on a 931 engine can get it to start in a few hours or less.

Engine is not that complicated.

Not if it's a bad crank reference sensor.

the main issue is lack of fuel pressure, the pumps got varnished from gas sitting too long. car is just overall really alot more rotted than the seller represented it. it has sat outside a long time. most of the hoses are very brittle and/or rock hard, oil is weeping from a few places, it has been a "mouse house" under the engine bay at some point, etc.... sad, i really wanted to get the car.

I am now considering buying the black 931 from Grendier/Dave on thsi board.

$3500? Not with the work it sounds like it needs.

And there is this one:

$1500, which seems more reasonable for a car that needs work.

those cars cant ever compare...the first one needs fuel pumps, filters and perhaps a hoose kit to be in concourse shape, the other one just looks "tuned" and faded. i cant believe you dont see the difference...the paint job alone makes the price difference worth.

if you consider "needs work" replacing the fuel pumps(about 1 hour with cleaning), replacing the acumulators and filter(another hour) and replacing the old pipes(say...6 hours done right) then you dont want this car.

Guys, the car mentioned in the OP is the one that Stefan linked to above (in Denver for $3500). It is a series 2. It is not getting power to the pumps, it is not just a fuel pump relay. It is most likely something gone awry with the DITC setup, so not a simple or inexpensive fix. Any way you look at it, a non-running car isn't worth $3500.

I can't see how this can be a DITC problem if they had it running for 20 seconds with starter fluid. More likely, it needs a new accumulator and a couple of new fuel pumps. Was the fuel filter flowing properly? Did you check whether fuel was being pumped to the motor?

Expecting all the pipes and hoses to be like new on a little-used 30 year old car seems a little optimistic to me.

As far as I can tell, and based on my private communication with the potential buyer, the DITC system has not been successfully ruled out as the culprit.

Now, granted, there could be an accumulation of other issues compounding the problem, including bad pumps, lots of varnish in the lines, bad WUR, bad wiring preventing 12V from reaching the pumps, and on and on.
