OK so after building my coil overs some of you noticed the wish bones on my car were not standard. They are of course 1985 944 alloy wish bones. I bought them because I'd read on here that they fit, do they bollox! I hope you can see in the picture the different diameters of the bushes where they mount into the cross member.

I know you can't read the scale on the vernier but there is about a 5mm difference between the steel and alloy bushes. The reason these will bolt on to the 924S is because it has the alloy cross member to support the 2.5 engine. The only way to get these to fit was to get the flap wheel out and grind about 2mm off the casting.

Now I'm no mechanical engineer, but I don't think I've removed too much strength. EEEEKKKKK! I bought OEM drop links and aftermarket upraighted bushes. The bush kit was specially made up for me because I wanted to keep the 20mm front ARB (I have no rear ARB so didn't want to induce understeer by fitting a thick front ARB) and the ends of the 20mm ARB are only 16mm. 944 drop links are normally 18mm.

The bush kit unfortunately came with cheapo flat penny washers for the drop links (top left) so I forked out again for some OEM curved washers and nylocks.

When fitted they blow the pants off the standard steel A arms looks wise. Probably not as strong as steelies but hey ho. Tune in next week for my vented big brake conversion using audi parts. More back street engineering!

There is another way, and this issue has been discussed before, most recently here:
