| I tried to take the terminals off the fuel pump today. It turns out that one of them was broken off by the previous owner, and was held together using some solder and JB weld. I am not inclined to drill/tap the pump terminal at this point, so I will need a new pump. I am not particularly find of Bosch, had some mixed luck with their products. I heard that there was a Pierburg pump that fits 931, does anybody know which one and where to get it? I also had good luck with Walbro pumps, never had one fail on me, does anybody know if there is a Walbro option for the 931? |

Joe, 7.21659.02 is just the pump. 7.21659.70.0 is a set including 7.21659.02 pump and adaptors.
Then there is the 7.21659.72.0 set which looks exactly the same as 70.0 set but I guess there is some difference. |
This information is for the external pump. Internal pump is a different story, they are made by Airtex or something like that.

The Walbros have screw-in fittings on either end that make them adaptable to a variety of applications. Ordering the correct kit is the only way to go, as the kit is usually the same price as a fuel pump without the kit (in other words, they seem to include the correct kit for FREE).
There are several Walbros that have the correct fuel delivery rate, but you need to be sure to order GCL604-1, which has the correct foam rubber sleeve for mounting in the 931 fuel pump bracket, as well as the correct fittings for both ends.
I have a wholesaler from which I order my Walbro pumps, and I am now running one on my 81 NA and my 81 931, so I can confirm that they work (although I cannot yet attest to long-term reliability, as I've had each less than 2 years). My price is $109 + shipping which at last check was lower than any other price I've seen online.
There is also a GCL608-1 that is listed for the 924. I don't know what the difference is, and I haven't tried fitting one. I know the 604 works, but not sure on the 608. It's the same price, in any event.

You got mail. I have put Walbro pumps through the kind of abuse that no Bosch would ever be able to survive. I have never had one fail on me, no matter how hard I tried. $109 is a sweet price, I'll take it. |

| Update: The pump that Dan (ideola) sold me works like a champ. This is probably not news to the folks on this forum, but I would highly recommend him as a vendor. Knowledgeable, helpful and a great asset to this forum. |

I don't think that Walbro is knocking off anybody's product. I have used them on my modified DSMs with great results. On this forum the consensus seems to be that Pierburg makes a better pump than Bosch. I have used and abused Walbro pumps, and I am yet to have one fail on me (knock on wood). I think that they are every bit as good as Pierburg, and at a little over $100 a piece they are definitely a bargain. |
