Hello.
I've been trying to install my new alternator, but I found a little problem.
I bought my car with a non original alternator installed by the previous owner. A few months ago I found a remanufactured original alternator, so I decided to buy it. Two days ago I tried to istall it and I found that the lower fitment was not good.
The previous alternator was mounted using the standard upper mount and an adjustable bracket at the bottom. That bracket is the bigger one showed in the picture. Can you tell me if that bracket is original??
The other bracket is the original part showed at the pet. Anyway, I found that part too much short to tight the V-belt...
On the other hand, can you tell me where I should screw the adjustable bracket? There are three different holes in that area.
Thank you!

I believe I use the two top holes, but there are also slots in the the bracket to allow for adjustment so that the sheave will line up which is very important. I just bought difference size belts until I go one to fit. I think it was 355mm which was longer than the book called for. _________________ Mike

There are two tensioning arms shown in PET: 046.903.255.A for the XF/XH/XK (ROW) motors; and 046.903.255.B for the XE/XG/XJ (US,Canada,Japan, and Right Hand Drive ROW) motors. I suspect what you are seeing in that photo is the two different types. The smaller one is the only one I have ever seen on the limited number of NAs I've worked on.
It's also possible that the difference is due to the Paris-Rhone style alternator vs. the Bosch style alternator, but I'm not positive on that. _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |

Hello Ideola. I shot that photo and I have both types. Also, the alternator I'm trying to put in place is the Bosch style alternator. My car is an Euro spec. NA (left handled). I noticed that there are also 2 different v-belts. I have a 887mm and a 900mm v-belts.
Do you know which combination of tensioning arms and v-belt is the appropriate for the Bosch style alternator??
Small tensioning arm with the 887mm v-belt?
Thank you. _________________ Porsche 924 NA Euro. |
