It's been a while since I've looked in the dizzy of my '82 British car, but I'm pretty sure it's not points. It's either a reluctor or a Hall-effect sensor.

AFAIK, 1980-onward cars all have Hall sensors in the distributor and a CD-based ignition module on the LHS inner fender well (behind the headlight).

i'm 100% sure they have electronic ignition. My 81 had it too. 80 was the limbo year if I'm not mistaking.
