This is probably old news but I just stumbled across this recently looking for a harbor freight pass/fail thread.
Holy shite, this guy is king. Jack Olsen's 12 gauge garage.

That's very nice of you to say. Thank you.
It's small -- and a low-budget effort ($3,500 and counting, including the lift). But I've put a lot of time into putting the whole thing together -- and also into using it.

awesome! The lift is fantastic and the organization is great!
Incidentally, today I picked up some relatively strong cabinets for my garage (which is only half the size of yours), but your cabinets are godly.
I like the way stuff has been organized to save space... you do a lot of metal craftmanship? _________________ "Rule: Turbo's make torque, and torque makes fun." (C. Bell)

Thanks.
You're right, morghen. The tools were not included in that figure. The $3.500 covers the tile floor, the cabinets, all nine work benches and the cabinets and the paint. (And the lift, including the concrete and re-tiling involved.)
Martijnus, I've been learning some carpentry and metal fab as I've put the garage together. I'm not a very skilled fabricator, but I'm willing to try just about anything. My first project was to make a wrought-iron-style fence for my home, which involved something like 4,000 individual welds. So, I was a lot better at welding when I was finished with that than I was when I started.
I learned how to curve that 2" steel tubing when I made the bench at the opening of the garage.
For the sink area, I started with this old cabinet:
And cut it up in the course of re-shaping it into this (kind of peculiar) sink area:
And the garage is nice and clean for the pictures, but it gets used. Here's the engine we rebuilt in the garage going in.

No, thank you, that's some inspirational stuff right there. You are a talented guy.
It's small -- and a low-budget effort.
Word up, you just described my life in one sentence. (If that's technically a sentence, I'm not sure)
Also, I am also thoroughly jealous of your CA weather.
Rock on.

Jack Olsen.........You're a Legend! In all seriousness, what a great job.
But more on that lift....who, what and where......and some piccies of it without car , if you have, would be appreciated. There are many of us who only have single or double garages, and all current lifts I've ever seen take up sooo much room. What you have is truly a revelation.

Jack Olsen-
First off I'll just say that your garage is amazing! You seriously could make a business out of just renovating other guy's garages.
But I have to ask - what brought you to the 924 board? _________________ 1977 Porsche 924 - sold

If I remember reading his GJ thread he said it was just a hydraulic lift table rated for 3000 lbs. Since he has a lightweight rear engine/trans car he can just lift the car by its pan. Don't quote me though. _________________ 1982 931- Stock with MBC at 8psi
