Through a series of unfortunate carelessness*, I've now got a cracked windscreen. It's been replaced once already because the current sheet has an Aussie safety mark on it (unlike most of the others, which have German ones), so it's possible. So I'm curious as to how difficult have people found it to get a car glass repair place to make another?

* Incident #1 was me knocking the mirror off. This took a chip out of the glass. Incident #2 was Dad discovering the spring in the wiper arms is quite strong. The blade-less arm accidentally hit the windscreen...

Part # for 924 & 944S1 = PS411S
Last figure, 180 = RRP in Au$ inc GST

That is the most you want to pay for supply only. Ring around the smaller firms (less overhead, more flexible) and use that as a maximum guideline to negotiate. Was around 4 years ago now but it cost me $110 in Adelaide. Nicely tinted in upper section and with the integral black surround, looks nicer & makes finishing easier.

Personally would NOT ring O`Briens unless you have insurance with glass cover and even then they did a poor & messy job on another car. Depends on the kid actually doing the job of course but its easy to DIY, save say $200, and get a better finish. Use a suitable polyurethane sealant such as Sika, around $20 cartridge @ trade or panel supplies shop. Work quickly wiping off excess with turps soaked rag. Oh, good idea to use disposable rubber gloves as it sticks much better than $hit to a blanket.

I got a quote from obriens of $560, the nice lady told me how they take a little longer on the job because its a porsche!

I then got some quotes from the small local guys and they are quoting around the $260 for a fully installed windscreen.

Cheers,

That is amazing. Thanks guys! I'll be calling Dad today with this info, hopefully before he springs $600 on O'Briens...
