how the hell do you get these stupid things in? I might be crazy but they LOOK too short to fit inside? Is that they stretch a little as they are pressed in?

I don't have a vice, but used a c-clamp, and i got it probably 9/10ths the way in and it refuses to press ANY further??????????? what the hell? READY TO SCREAMMMMMMMM!

Nevermind, figured it out. That last little bit was actually the metal insert in the bushing hitting the c-clap and going no further. So i used a 1 1/8" socket on the other end so that the open end of it could fit over the bushing, and then the clap would push down on the socket, and the bushing on the other end, forcing it through. I got it!

WHAT A PAIN IN THE @$$!

Pro-thane 22-201 about $25-30 from various vendors:

Has the proper metal inserts.

wow u guys just made my day! i love that the bushings are the same as the A1 VWs ( Rabbit, Jetta, Scirocco). That means the Delrin bushings I have will work in the 931! If anyone wants them in Delrin, I can hook you up with the gentleman who made mine. He is from Southern California

Hmm, I thought I mentioned them to you before?

@2mAn: The front suspension on the 924 is essentially MK1 VW Rabbit suspension, rear is VW Type 3. Subtle differences of course, like the steering rack is a RHD rack mounted up front, upper strut mounts and uprights are specific to the car, etc.

the delrin i got for $200 with new control arms (for A1 VW) so i will just use those.

im so excited to hear that a lot of VW parts are used, i wont be as clueless as i thought! so besides the strut assembly (knuckle and strut cap included) its all mk1? i have new ball joints and ball joint extenders too for a mk1 waiting!

Be careful of the balljoint stud diameter. The 924 uses the larger diameter ball joint studs. Balljoint spacers work as well to correct geometry when lowered quite a bit.

Strut inserts work as well I think, but I don't know for sure if the length is correct and the valving may not be correct either.

The 924 is a parts bin car. It was originally a VW/Audi project so it uses a lot of VW and Audi parts. Door handles are from the bunny, engine from the Audi 100ls (originally designed by Mercedes, hamstrung by Porsche to keep it slower than the cheapest 911 of the time). Porsche seats and transaxle (79/80 only for the Porsche transaxle) Audi transaxle for most and I'm sure there are other parts and pieces that can be traced to VW, Audi or Porsche.

924NA shares the clutch, bell housing and starter with many of the later Audi 5-cylinder cars. Some have even swapped in the Audi 5-cylinder turbo motors (takes some work of course)

If they are steel sleeved, I'd be interested in three sets. Perhaps a "Group Buy" thread is in order?
