more dead than alive . I have a very nice taken care of 1977 924 Euro model. I wonder if I should eliminate the cis system and install a weber carb kit? I wonder if this would resolve the hard start problem when hot? The car drives like a dream when cold but when it gets hot it delevopes a nerves condition and then stalls. Trying to start it, forget about it. I need help and would like to kept the car. I was offered 4k for it as is, but I'm not selling would prefer to fix the problem. Could anyone give good advise? Thank you. |

Buy a CIS pressure tester and some CIS books/manuals.
Make sure everything is working according to the tests in the books/manuals.
This includes temp sensors, grounds, vacuum lines, intake hoses, fuel rates, WUR, Accumulator, etc.
I'm not a fan of the CIS system (the term I used to describe it was "a carburetor exploded in the engine bay), but as long as it is mostly working, switching to another fuel system is a lot of work. I switched because mine fell apart as I took it apart to pull the head, plus I wanted to experiment with the car.
6 years later, I'm finally at this point:

Thank you both for your reply. All of the parts that one could change was changed by the previus owner, except for the fuel distributor and the air meter it sits on. I really don't want to start buying parts and guessing what it needs. I found a NEW weber carb kit at a very resonable price including the manifold needed to mount the carbs.
I only want to know Will that cure the hot start problem? Thanks again. |

LAYMANS Terms
Maybe not as most of the problems can be caused by a little wax pelet in the thermo sensor that lets the fuel system know when to feed extra fuel to the injector system when the engine is first started as in COLD.
Technical Terms will follow as I have just been going through 1500 pages of a current automotive engineering text books which explains in GREAT DETAIL why you should NEVER change things from the way they were first created for the system as everything relates to each other.
I have been guilty of this for years, when we first had charcoal cannisters in Australia most of us disconnected them straight away because a mate of a mate that had a mechanic friend said we would get better mileage if we did and because we dont have to have our gas analysed for smog content nobody ever knew or cared.
But disconnecting it can cause all sorts of problems to the other sensors
and also pressure in the fuel system depending on type of tank and year models.
