Thought I'd share some recent work on the 924 Carrera GT.

I wanted to do a few repairs and a little detailing to the paintwork, it was mainly the polyurethane plastic parts that were suffering the most.
The rear arches had the common problem of the stud heads having blown the surface and blistered the poly, and the inter-cooler scoop had some
stress fractures as did the rear bumper.

The front off-side wing had a small badly done repair under the decal so I thought I'd take the opportunity to do that as well. That meant replacing
the decal and after no luck in sourcing a NOS pair for front and rear, decided instead of putting on aftermarket version's I'd have them done in paint!

After the restoration and paintwork to the rear arches it was the refitting I was dreading, the edging strip is no longer available for both sides so
carefully cleaned up the existing pair and section by section re-fitted them by using a little glue to hold them in place on the arch. Then as the arch
goes on with liberal amounts of copperslip on the studs, you can adjust the edging strip up and down as you tighten the stainless nuts with their
rubber washers to get the uniform finish all the way along the edge of the arch. A painstaking process but worth it in the end. I've included a picture
of the rear quarter with the arch off, to give an idea of how much is cut off the panel for wheel clearance.

Really pleased with the way it's all worked out, especially the edging strip. The painted decals while obviously not original look fantastic and the
original paint on the rear quarters with it's Volkswagen paintshop orange peel even adds a certain character! Hope you like it.

Absolutley stunning. Obvious commitement to quality there.

Do you have a few more pics of how the studs lay in the fenders? I'd like to do mine in the same way or as close as possible.

Sorry, but didn't do any more detailed shots, are you thinking about doing the same repair to an original or fabrication into repro fenders?

Fabrication into repro fenders. The install guides for rear fenders that I've seen show rebated/countersunk holes for flat rivets with filler over the top but this seems a bit shadetree for me compared to those studs you have in yours.

Great Pics

The rubber piping between guard and flare is available in australia.
We use it on restorations of the A9X torana. It comes in pre cut lengths or off the roll.

Sorry for not coming back to you sooner. This is the system that Porsche use to fix on the arch extensions.

You would need to make or find a small M6 stud on a small plate, perhaps a little smaller than this one, as this is the part to fix the rubber
to the rear bumper, but the same principle. Then bond that flush into your arch extension to fit through the holes in the panel you then make
to line up, a dozen each side. They are secured on the inside by a rubber washer, mocked up here, with a stainless washer and lock nut.

The positioning for them are two centrally accessible from behind the arch panel, then 5 in the trunk space and 5 in the space between the
panels accessible though the grill space in the lower 'b' post.

Also as far as finding the plastic edging trim, the original is color coded to the car, it came in black, red and silver depending on the car color.
Hope that's of some help and good luck with it all.

Brilliant Mike!
My car has the same rusty bolts on the rear right hand side. At some time I will have to do a similar repair.

You paint the panel red first, then lay on the mask you have made from the scanned image of the best of the aftermarket decals.
Paint the black coat, then peel of the mask revealing the red lettering. Flat and clear coat to finish.

Hope that helps, Mike
