|

So I need some help.
Where can I get freeze / core plugs from?
Does anyone have a diagram showing the locations of all the freeze / core plugs?
Can anyone tell me the sizes of the core plugs on the engine?
Thanks,
Sam |

My engine rebuild kits include all of the freeze plugs required for a rebuild.
http://garage.ideola.com/prod-Kits.html
There are 4 large plugs on the side of the block, one large one on the front, and one small plug on both the front and the back. Don't recall exact sizes, but best to order the correct items. Part numbers are listed in PET, or send me a PM and I can set you up. _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |

And don't go cheap. My cheap arse buddy put a plug from NAPA on his 951 (it was an oil passage plug, just like a water jacket plug) and it blew out on the track. After cleaning up the contents of his dry sump setup (while everyone else waited), he went and got the proper OEM plug, and it had a different texture to the outer sealing surface.

P.S. This is not any comment on what is sold by Ideola's garage (because I know nothing about it), just an example I witnessed first hand of a significant functional difference in a non-OEM piece. _________________ Toofah King Bad

I just discovered that you can't use the Dorman rubber expansion plugs on at least some of the freeze plug holes. I just bought a '77 and the PO let the engine freeze. I wanted to try these out as a temporary/ semi permanent fix. It turns out that they won't fit because there's a casting just inside of the freeze plug port that prevents the rubber plug from fitting in there all the way. Taking it out with a die grinder seems like a bad idea, so I'm probably going to drop the exhaust so I can drive metal plugs in there.

So in the end I paid a guy to do this for me. The plug that needed replacing was almost underneath the engine. He has to mount and turn the engine to get at it.
Alas, there is another leak at the back of the engine block. Me and my dad are trying to figure out exactly where it's coming from. I've seen a diagram somewhere, I know I have, that shows the location of them all.
Also, could the leak be coming from somewhere else round there? It does look like there's some rusting around that area, but it is a 25 year old car...
I'm gutted it's not working after all this...maybe I should just get rid. Would someone be likely to buy it as it is? |
