M715 - CONTROL PV-U PRODUCTION PILOT RUN
http://www.944online.com/cgi-bin/ASI_Store.cgi?Search+XPage_optioncodes.html

And here's a possible explanation for what that means:

That is weird. So they did a pilot run of new parts for the 1985.5 model change in the early 85 cars. Why include that in the options?

Total stab in the dark here... But most auto manufactures started switching to base/clearcoat paint system in the eighties... I would think it would be in the paint code its self, but maybe.
But I would be curious to know when the germans made the switch. My 81 looks to be single stage both the crappy white and the original silver too.

No. Its pure insanity, and its actually the 8th. This is the last car in my signature, I got the year wrong because the guy selling it had the year wrong. When I picked it up today I saw on the title it was an 85. Plus I sold an older 944. I will update my profile shortly.

Because when they need replacement parts, it's good to know which parts to order At porsche they probably have a rich documentation about part combinations for specific cars...
