Is it possible to replace the small (chicane shaped)hose between waterpump and thermostat housing without taking either off?

And if not, which of the two should I take off? I would need to know for ordering a new gasket.

I tried the search but could not find it.

Cheers,
Duncan

If you're replacing it, then just carefully cut it after removing the clamps and draining the coolant level.

You can get a new one in there, but it will be a bit of a wrestle to do so along with the clamps. If the clamps can be opened and installed after the hose is in place, life will be much easier.

I've found the best stuff for new hose installation is KY Jelly. It also has excellent uses for whatever is left in the tube.

+1 to that!
If I have to fight a hose to put it on, I tend to use some hairspray. When it's wet, it works like a lubricant, and when it dries, it gets tacky enough to keep it from sliding around (which is excellent if you're slipping a hose on a pipe that isn't flared) but not so much that it won't come off when you need to replace it. that's an old bike I use when I need to put grips on mountain bikes and BMX's.
