OK, in answer to the topic I have to say "service". The Americans can fake "service" better than anyone else and probably a higher proportion of US businesses actially give real service than other countries. I suppose it's a result of having multiple sources for whatever you want. _________________ 1979 924 (Gone to a better place)

I'm with you there, Peter_in_AU.
When I was in the U.S., they had waiters that actually waited on you!
Not like here, where they show you to your seat then bugger off for a fag out the back for an hour... they might remember you haven't ordered when they come back...
And "service" people tended to be courteous and helpful, rather ignorant and indifferent like so many places here... _________________ '80 924 Turbo |

I think that is because of the gratuity or tipping which is not a custom in Oz.
In the US the wage for service personel is not high and they better service they give the , hopefully, better the tip.
Still, it is performance based, which is better than wages in a lot of circumstances.
It promotes a performance based economy.
Faster, better employees earn more money then the less productive.
Beats everyone getting the same wage/hour. _________________ Porsche 924 1984 (UK import) NA

Another thing I reckon is awesome is New Hampshire's State Motto
Back in Oz, ours are things like, "Newly risen, how brightly you shine." and "Cygnis Insignis" (distinguished by its swans, apparently, in case you were wondering, which you probably weren't 'cause even in Latin it sounds dull ).
That, and a six-pack of tall cans is five bucks at the local servo' _________________ '80 924 Turbo |

The states is a blast to visit......cheap gas....cheap used cars....endless miles of well maintained roads to explore. Drivers are polite......plenty of places to eat while on the road.....and there always something interesting to visit just around the next corner. You could spend a lifetime wandering around down there and never comes close to seeing it all. They have every variety of climate and scenery.....from stunning coastal highways to twisty mountain roads.
And the people are genuinely friendly and helpful.....and if they find out you're a traveller in distress....they will go the extra mile to help ya'.
I've bought stuff from the US that is only sold to US residents and I have no problem convincing one of my friends in the US to accept the package and forward it on to me.

Mountain Dew!
I am so jealous of how cheap food and housing is there. Cheapest place I can find round here is £125'000, which is an apartment about the size of a volvo estate.
Anywhere liveable is £200'000+.
Regarding food, I would almost contemplate a trip over just for First Watch breakfasts. The Tri-fecta or the chickichanga! Nom.
Makes sense why you're all fat bastids |

The best thing about America is the fact we recognize that ALL people are born with certain rights and they are not "given" to us by goverments or some other men.
Next best thing: if you threaten me or mine I'm gonna shoot your ass!!

Sadly more and more people forget every day. It is easy to forget when you have plenty of TV, and fast food, and shopping malls, and suvs, and hi-def, and ipods, and web cams, and porn. As long as we have great entertainment who cares if we lose our rights? _________________ 87 924s

I stand corrected !
I travelled the U.S. by plane, car and by boat quite a lot over the last few years. I can honestly say I enjoyed every minute. Even though Homeland security records the name of your boat everytime you go through a lift bridge.
The people I've met were friendly and helpful and I enjoyed thier company.
I'll be leaving on another extensive road trip in May and I look forward to it. I'm planning on driving around the perimeter of the U.S. Should be fun for the entire 8000 miles. I wont be driving the 924. _________________ '78 924 NA with Collector plate

I love America. It would be just too dangerous in this world without them. Just imagine, the British wading in to some foreign Arab dictatorship, all guns a blazing without Uncial Sam leading the way. OMG
Just imagine trying to enforce a no fly zone without US backing. _________________ 924 (84) N/A 2 ltr - 5 Speed - BLACK - Project (looking for 200BHP, any ideas!)
