I have trouble finding a new crankcase vent hose. They are NLA from June 2010. What are the alternatives? Is it possible to remove the restrictor from the hose and put in a generic hose?
Or should I have a restrictor machined from stainless, or plastic or bronze and how should it look?

Duncan

I was able to remove it, but failed at getting it into a new tube. It's just a thick piece of rubber with a hole through it.
That was over three years ago: Ended up ordering a new one from Haarlem.

Some engines are equiped with braided oil tube that have a steel elbow in it on the breather side… I should have a picture of it somewhere…
Let me know if you need sizes etc.
Regards, Harm.

My hose was fubar so i replaced it with some 20mm heater hose with a polyurethane plug that had a 6mm hole in it. held in by silicone and friction.
I know it will rot out sooner but at $10 compared to a $150 replacement i will just keep an eye on it.

Thanks,

I called Haarlem, but no luck.
The third time I ran into a 'casual' part that is NLA:
1) Bottom radiator hose
2) Fuel return line from WUR
3) Now this crankcase vent hose.

@Harm, why was it so difficult to install the restrictor. I am thinking putting the whole hose in hot bath or something?

@Ozzie, how long should the restrictor be?

The hot water didn't have an effect on the restrictors size. It was so large it was on the brink of bursting out of the old tube. Over the years the oil/heat probably had an effect on the rubberness IMO.

My hose looks like the top one in the stack: a snake that just had a really big meal.

There was no elbow in the setup. Like shown in the PET the hose attaches directly to the crankcase breather and the centerpiece between the two
air bellows.

Weird, is the NA different? Mine is just a black rubber hose with woven cloth on the outside, like the bottom one in the pic above. Do they all have restrictors in them?

I used a piece about 25mm long 20mm diameter and a 6mm hole, pushed it in with a screwdriver handle after applying silicone.

I also connected it to the air box instead of the join in the induction boots.
(had to adjust the AF mix after.)

I believe 931's have an air/oil seperator, which 924's lack, hence the difference.

My thoughts exactly, hehehe

Allright, so you used the now NLA one, PET #047 103 221 (no.25)
The same PET diagram also shows the shorter Airbox connection (no.19)(±23CM) that you don't want I guess!

Replacing the NLA part by a braided tube (±35CM), whithout an elbow could have an effect on the actual breathing that should take place: It would hardly fit underneath there. Thats why I suggested putting an elbow there, as I've found on other engines.

^Altered factory image that shows the Elbow in place. See… I'm not imagining things
That connection uses another 4CM braided tube to keep it in place.

Both the braided vent hoses I have don't show a restrictor in them (?!?).
I've never used them, and unrestricted doesn't seem to be the correct way IMO.
The black restricted tube is what I use on the N/A.

Good point.

Get yourself some hose Duncan
Cheerio, Harm.

I just stuck an old nut in the end of the replacement hose. I tried to get the old restrictor out but it disintegrated first.

I am now considering two options:

1) Have an aluminum plug machined, sort of olive shaped for a press fit in a standard 20mm oil resistant hose.
2) Use 2 pieces of matching hose as a restrictor:
Outer hose 19mm inner diameter, 27mm outer
Middle hose 13mm inner diameter, 20mm outer
Inner hose 6mm inner diameter 13mm outer

What do you think is the better option?

Cheers,
Duncan

Take #2.

Question addressed to the non 924 n/a members.
Does the Air/Oil Separator* have a restrictor inside its housing or pipe ends?

Thanks, Harm.

Nothing that is visible. I've never opened one up, but I can't see anything in the pipe connections that's visible.
