Thoughts are with our Board Brothers in North Queensland as the largest and most powerful (category 5+) cyclone in recorded history bears down on places such as Cairns, Townsville, Innisfail, Mission Beach.
Due to hit around 12.00am local time, with winds in the 300+ KPH range, a storm surge of 7 metres at its centre; and the centre to take over an hour to pass any given point. In fact, towns 200kms inland will have a category 3 cyclone to contend with - unheard of. Most cyclones peter out once they cross any major land forms.
This sucker is way bigger than even 'Katrina'.
I hope our Board members up there are safe. We're thinking of you. _________________ 80/81 932/8 ROW |

Yeah, we can't all have high construction standards like Eastern Europe. _________________ Toofah King Bad

This is a serious storm on any scale. It can be tracked here:
http://www.bom.gov.au/products/national_radar_sat.loop.shtml
Given the area of Australia is only a few thousand acres less than the USA, the size of the cyclone can be appreciated.
Its passage inland is also unprecedented, and comments about building codes belittle the effect on the people.
I don’t know of hurrican building standards in Utah. _________________ 1981 931 ROW RHD Australian delivery, Bilsteins, LSD, adj coilovers, #350/550lb/in front, 27mm TB, adj rear sway bar, Targa setup |

Well the worst is over.
At first it was reasonably quiet but as darkness fell the cyclonic winds intensified.
Next door had a lot of trees in the yard which sheltered the house but my biggest concern was the fact we have already had a lot of rain and the ground was sodden.
All was going well until a little after 9pm when the power went out.
I had taped the windows, checked all the torches and had a radio which went all night hooked up to a car battery.
The wind became a roar like a jet aircraft hovering overhead about 11pm as top speed of about 160kph was reached. This went on for 3 hours and we could hear debris hitting the house, some louder than others.
About 2 pm we could hear the roar quieting down and we all slept.
I arose at 6am and it was still blowing about 75kph with gusts up to 100kph.
Miraculously, the house, cars and shed are all intact. My fence and clothesline are crushed by trees from next door.
Tree debris is everywhere.
family is all safe, power is out but have generator and most creature comforts _________________ Porsche 924 1984 (UK import) NA

We're also in Townsville and besides a sleepless night suffered limited damage compared to others further north. We went into the night expecting the worst and I was happy to see light again. Did all prep we could and I think that might have saved a roller door or two and further damage. Take care all. _________________ '79 924.

Glad to hear you guys are ok.
Rasta, there is no difference between buildings in all europe, they are all made in the same way, following the same standards. _________________ Supercharger and EFI kits

Come to Cornwall, we have houses made 600 years ago from gannet rock. _________________ 924 (84) N/A 2 ltr - 5 Speed - BLACK - Project (looking for 200BHP, any ideas!)
