Figured I would post some pics before the power goes out. Its getting really nasty outside.

Here is an idea how thick it is.

People going nuts at the gas station, service trucks everywhere for downed lines.

I feel for ya Joe, even down here in NM we're having a 'snow day' for three days of course, for the first time this winter. 8-20 inches of snow is in the forecast. The weather hysterics on the local news predicted high winds too, which is worse than snow around here, ponderosa pines like to aim for power lines. So, in lieu of losing juice to the computer, and oh, I suppose the furnace, we spent a grand on a new gas generator, probably won't need it of course. Tomorrow, I'm going to run romax wires, with new outlets on the walls, down thru the floor to our crawl space. Then I can eliminate running extension cords from the generator on the ground thru our windows to our appliances. And the computer! Spike has 8" of snow on him at the moment. This scene had brown in it yesterday! And, you could see the mountain in the back ground.

Why not just add a small transfer switch and move the critical circuits to its panel?

I've been trying to talk Lori into a whole-house generator for the last 5 years or so. So far, no luck. Cost isn't the factor as much as her "it'll never happen" attitude.

Yeah, big switch gear near the panel will automatically switch to the generator when power goes out. At least the ones I'm looking at will. Runs off the natural gas line plumbed to the house gas feed.

That would be the ultimate setup. I worked for Carrier for years, and could have bought one at cost, they slap their label on the Generac models. At the time, did not realize i'd have a house in a mountain area!

Looks like Oregon (although we haven't had one of those in a while).

You Yanks are really getting pasted right now. Half the businesses we deal with in the States are closed due to the weather, and I've been watching the snow pile up on you. It's warm here now, but a couple of weeks ago we had extremely cold temps and record snowfalls in Edmonton.

Sic transit gloria mundi...

Genny's a great idea, BTW. And make sure there's no way for your water pipes to freeze. Our first winter on the acreage I had nothing but trouble with the water well - nothing will stop your heart faster than popping the cover off a huge hole in the ground at -30C to see the hole filling up with water because your pump has lost its mind and blown off its fittings.

We have 14" of the fluffy white stuff here, very little moisture in the snow. No heart attack for this shoveler! Fourteen below zero this morning, then it pops up to 40 on friday. And that continues next week, no more snow! Here's what it looks like this morning.

No toofah trips for a week. But the blue jeep wrangler gets it's turn.

I feel left out, we haven't had snow in 2 days...

And to top it off, it's going to be 32 degrees on Saturday!
