yeah the hood is twisted up on that corner, the bumper isn't where it should be on the drivers side, under the bumper is virtually useless crushed in and might i say very rusty lol. The pics were taken while it's ass was in the air about an extra 3 feet. Seriously though, the only rust i could find on this car was all at the front around the bumper area and was mostly just surface rust and a beginning touch in the battery tray. The paint seems to be trying to remove itself from the car and there is a 1 foot or so section that gone off the roof letting the orange out.

So are you wanting a full resto project? or just really really want a 924?

Aren't you confused with red; 1982-indischrot? (although EARLY toofah's leaned against orange wearing Marsrot)
Porsche never marketed any orange 924.

Why is the B-style White instead of Black? …replaced door?
(only exeption I know of are GTRs: lightweight doors)

I'd say avoid the old man and keep in touch with his son if you want that project in spring.
Plenty o' time to do some topics; read the FAQ yet?
Kind regards, Harm.

I never look for a full resto project when I'm out and about scouting. I take a lot of driving trips in ky going waterfall hunting and find many interesting rides between. I've watched this one for 2 years and it's moved about 10 feet. Porsche is a drivers car and it pains me to find them rotting away unused. 944 or 924 I would just like a nice trip car.

I went through FAQ 3 times to get the links bookmarked in order of attack once she was home. I read technical and how-to's to link those for a bit more in-depth and, once I signed up, I happened across the very informative for noobs sticky. When i happened across this site it got me more excited about having that problem child for a project. Knowing that I wouldn't have to waste any money throwing parts at the car because of how easy and informative this site was from the moment i started exploring. I have some decent access to new and used parts for most any car, though I've yet to see the fuels pumps for what I consider cheap. I have a great body guy who could have that straight and paint for the cost of materials and beer. I can get the seats done by a guy that owes me enough to cover the bill. My friend has an 85.5 944 and an 86 944 turbo that I work on a bit, which is probably why I've been on the lookout for a Porsche project for the past several years. From what I've read here so far and pricing out a worst case scenario, I could easily see this $400 car costing me several thousand before it's finished. Whether I get this car or not I really appreciate all the help. I have decided to stick to the price his son, the registered owner, said he was selling it for and if his dad starts that "it's special" crap I'll just have to tell him the sad truth.

That's not a gray market car. If it's really a 83 or later production car, it's a privately imported US Spec Car. After Porsche stopped actively marketing the 924 in the US (last Official US production cars were 82 model year), they continued to build 924s for sale until 85. After the 82 model year you could still order a 924 from Porsche in US Spec. and have the car imported. Most US Spec cars I've seen built after the 82 model year are the same Platinum Metallic, with the same equipment and interior, as the 81 Weissach Special Edition cars (with the Special Edition wheel treatment). Ventilation controls were the same as early 82-83 944/82 924. Hose materials were the same material as 944, not 924 (which is one way to tell a 81-82 US Spec 924 from a 83 and newer 924 under the hood).

Not running, it's not worth any more than any other non-running later 924 US market. $400 is being generous.

that car makes mine look like a steal, and it required 3 months of body work. Do you know what actual structural damage was done to the front end?
... Does the engine turn over by hand?

Yes the engine was free. Damage was from what he called a minor fender bender and his dad says it was fully repaired by a local body shop, just three years ago, and hasn't really been driven since. I would not trust one word from them on the subject.

Sorry I haven't called the guy about the project yet to find out his crazy number. I will try in about 12 hours. I have found another gold 924 that's been sitting longer but the body and interior are awesome in comparison to this car. I am going to be checking on it in about 12 hours as well.

Alright, final verdict is $600. I took some more exterior photos and I may have been a bit harsh on it's condition. Seat bottoms are apart at the stitching but the tops are perfect. Body damage is less than the image I had in my head. Now that the snow melted, I have found the windshield is leaking a bit down the driver dash into the floor but it's quite solid.

I wouldn't buy it, but I'm a 931 snob, so take that with a grain of salt! Are those scenic photos yours? I'm impressed, I'm a 20 year wedding photog veteran, and can appreciate fine photography. I'm in the Land of Enchantment down here in NM for the winter and am too lazy to drag out the Nikon D2X to save my soul. Once the camera became a tool to make money, I started to hate it! Drove our jeep wrangler down the mountain today in a winter storm and really wished I had had the camera along. I was more concerned with keeping the ice off of the wipers. Arghghg.

I'd be finding out the details of this "wreck" it was in, if I were you. That damage looks really odd. It actually looks pretty straight down the side, but the hood is quite obviously very bent and so is the headlight, and it looks dented along the top of the drivers' fender... Did something fall on it? Or did it get really badly slammed from underneath? If that chassis is bent, she's parts, IMHO...

EDIT: Urrrgh... look at that ripple in front of the passenger-side front strut tower cap...

(Image won't work... Not a flickr user...)

from looking at the pics closely, I'd say the guy either had a hippo sit on the front bumper, or he used it for stunt jumping at one point. Jack up the front-end of the car and take a look at any under body damage.

Then again, either way, it's not worth it, judging from that ripple in the strut tower that khal pointed out. What is the other car you're looking at?

Indeed. And I can appreciate good commentary...

buy a 931, anywhere in the US and drive it to your house or use a transport company.
Post in the WTB section, there will be a board member at some stage selling a car and quite frankly will be 200 times better than that POS.
The 33 yr old's dad has lied to you and I wouldn't trust anything they have to say. It's been crashed and unless you put it over the pits you'll never know what your buying into.
If he disagrees tell hime to come post on the board and we'll sort his story out pretty quickly.
happy to offer advice if you can get under the car and take some more pics.
Stu
