Well I think I've done the dumbest thing ever with my car. Got all new rubber bushings for my A arms and ball joints and strut assemblies. Got it all apart and went to install the new A arms and realized I pressed the rear bushings on backwards. Needless to say I'm mad as hell. Took em to my firehouse and used the press to try to get them off, no go...
Does anyone know how to get the rear bushing off without damaging it? I'd rather not have to buy another set. Thanks. I'm soaking my wounds with labatts _________________ Michael

Cheers…
Two cents I'd like to spend:
Leaf it in hot water for a while
to make it expand a tiny bit? |

No it's the rear bushing of the A arm that I've messed up. I spoke to Vaughan about just using it as it is and he said he'd be concerned with the bushing backing itself off over time. I took it to a tranny shop and they couldn't get it off either. Luckily this was on a spare set of a arms and I have my originals to put back on til I get this bushing issue sorted. Just wish I could get em off and not have to buy new ones. _________________ Michael

if this is a spare set of arms, and you have anouther set.can you cut the area where the bushing is in and release the crimp then the bushings wil come right out. _________________ Doco "where am i going and why am i in this handbasket"author unknown

Stock rubber bushings? WTF? Poly's are cheap dude! Plus they are easier to install
Anyway, you'll need a bearing separator/splitter to provide a way to apply force to the entire face of the steel center section of the bushing and potentially not bend it:
http://www.grainger.com/Grainger/pullers-and-bearing-splitters/pullers-and-separators/hand-tools/ecatalog/N-97o
Then use a push-puller to connect to the bearing separator/splitter to apply force to the end of the control arm mounting rod to draw the bushing off:
http://www.grainger.com/Grainger/push-pullers/pullers-and-separators/hand-tools/ecatalog/N-97q
Remember to use a torch to heat up the steel center bushing to expand it and/or some ice or cooling spray on the control arm portion to shrink it a little to lessen the chance of damaging the bushing. Spray some good penetrating oil on both arms and bushings, then allow them to soak for a day or so, reapplying every few hours.
Good luck! _________________ Stefan
