G'day all, another newby from Australia
Have been looking for a project car to do with my son with a view to it being his daily driver when he gets his licence in a bit over 3 years.
We have decided on a 924 and are going to look at one this weekend.
We are after a bit of guidance on any 924 specific problem areas to pay particular attention to.
I'm sure this would have been covered priviously but a search didn't turn up what we were after. Has anyone compiled a 924 pre purchase checklist or anything similar.
Cheers |

I had a RACQ mastercheck done on mine before I purchased it, that would be the same as a NRMA check for you.
They just did the same as they did for my 4WD, after all they are still a car and a lot of parts are still available from Porsche or VW.
Anything in general that you are worried about though ?

I have used NRMA pre perchase inspections previously on cars that were a bit to far away to check out myself and yeah they do a thorough job.
I am quite happy to inspect it myself and am confident I can pick up any major problems but was thinking more of model specific isssues. Thing like known rust spots, common electrical troubles, etc |

Look up a PPI checklist for a 944 as it will be similar.
Also, check on 924.org for technical info and part number cross references along with some common tips and tricks.
Clarke-garage is a great tech resource as is Pelican Parts, EBS Racing and many others.
Hope this helps, _________________ Stefan

| Another question I just thought of that one of the Aus members might be able to answer for me. Can Aus delivered 924's run on straight premium unleaded or do you need to also run a lead replacement addative. I'm not sure if they had hardened valve seats or not and Australia didn't switch to unleaded until 1986. |

Straight unleaded is not a problem - that's all we run on here in the States. Just a matter of making sure the octane is right... _________________ Vaughan Scott

In Brisbane , I run mine on 95 or 98 but not the ethonal blends. Sometimes I also throw in some valvemaster.

We don't have a choice in the US - everything is some sort of ethanol blend (thank the corn lobby!). Most NA street cars are perfectly happy with 87 octane, the most common base pump gas (note that US/CAN pump octane ratings are avg of the RON and MON numbers, so a bit lower than yours).
My racecar, running 9.5:1 CR and LOTS of advance, I run on 93 octane.
My turbo (bone stock '82) I run usually on 93, 'cause that's more commonly available, but will do just fine on 91 as well. _________________ Vaughan Scott

The car will run on normal unleaded but may ping unless you retard the timing a little.
Au cars run 10deg BTDC so I run mine at about 8
I use 95 or 98, but can use 91 if I want. _________________ Porsche 924 1984 (UK import) NA
