Hi guys, I need help, as i have reached a big dead end. I have surfed the web for days!!!

I have probibly seen every single picture of a VW LT; Audi 100; 924 engine there is, above that searched every single little letter number dolla and dot on this bloody block. Can ANYONE tell me what block this is please. I also seem to have the head that the 924 N/A uses, but its carbureted o_O.... Same number as the 924 head though... just this crank case/block.

Head number 047 103 373 (part number i guess)
Block/crank case number 046 103 021 A

Please Help...

EDIT: A pic was removed (engine side view : pumps alternator and pulleys)

It is. My problem being that i dont know what block it is and that neither the audi 100 porsche 924 n/a or vw's that had this engine came out in a carb version...

My situation is this, Have a set of Del'orto's 40s. gonna turbo this machine.

Essentials like comression, capacity etc i cannot find because i dont know what car it came out of and no one can tell me what block that is from.

I´m pretty sure it is Audi 100, maybe even from the SA factory. Audi logo on top and no injectorholes. But I´ve never actually seen the car with that engine only the VW LT( ...and it had the same cover with the four rings).

As far as I know is the head identical to the 924 N/A except for the missing k-jet connections. But not sure about the cam though, please enlighten us if it is the same as 924. Guessing pistons and compression are the same as well. The Audi had 113 carbed horses compared to the de-tuned low-comp VW LT31.

One forummember built a wild turbo-plumming-nightmare with that head and exhaust manifold coulpe of years ago.

If you want me to I can check with a VW LT31 2.0 over at the scrapyard for identification and pictures?

EDIT: AUDI 100 2.0 carb 113hp (C2 platform) 76-78

hehehehehe (thank you for the detailed responses, rly appreciate it!)

Gegge, yeah I'm from SA. Stripping it now, will do the head the weekend and get the block clear and take it in to an engineering company i contacted, they will be cleaning it, honing it and checking the capacity and compression.

Once I've got all the details I'm sure it'll be easier to identify what car it came from. EDIT: bite tired, saw you said audi 2.0 carb c2 platform. THNX

Planning t3/t4 turbo running a set of Del'Orto Carbs (40s) from a Lotus Esprit (which im not to familiar with). Will be making a custom flange to fit them with custom intake. (happy to have engineers for friends)

I'm finding pages such as this one

http://www.ultimatespecs.com/?option=4&brand=2&model=604&car=3682

But nothing about that Audi 100 2.0 carb engine. As much as i want to assume that the 2.0carb is the same as the Audi 100 1.6 carb (c2) with 8.2:1 compression... I can't, can I?

No, the 1.6l is the standard VW from the EA827 family with 88mm bore spacing. The inline 5 and V8 use the same spacing and are evolutions from the tiny 1.6l inline 4, later 1.8l and 2.0l with 16V and 20V.

The Audi 2.0l 76-78 is the same engine as we use in the 924 with 95mm bore spacing. An odd beast

Ok, will just finish stripping the block this weekend, have it cleaned and honed and measured then come back with the new details.

Think it would be beneficial to not only me as these details are nowhere on the web. I just can't find them, a person tends to reach that point where you start seeing threads, posts and data 3-4 times over saying "damnit, been here"

Still to come: Pics of the beginning; Erotic shows (924 stripping)

The idea of it possibly being a track car for Classics, i would like to use the right hand side head light space for the airfilter. Use the lid and cut vents into it or just mold something different out of it so a person doesnt loose the original. Imagining the air filter mounted right there where the light should be...

Assuming the turbo sits below the block and flows air through the cooler from bottom to top left of the engine bay and out towards the intake. (trying to minimise the heat ill be getting down the right side of the engine bay and at the same time not pick up a heap of lag.)

Bah, enough of my Yapping. The weekend is HERE! Hope everyone has a good one!

Turbo below the block? Hope that you are adding a pump for the oilreturn line and it will smoke alot every time you start the car.

Looks like the postal jeep engine. Do you have the starter? If it is a ford type it is from a postal jeep. The postal jeep also had an automatic so there would be a formed sheet metal flywheel.

Chrysler built an engine (under license from VW) with a block casting of 046103021A in the late seventies that was the 1.7 ltre engine used in the Plymouth Horizon or Dodge Omni- which was a badge engined version of the Simca 1500 sold in Europe (with the Simca engine)

Morning!, mmmmmm fly wheel o_O Formed sheet metal? new term for me.

I'll take some pics as its been stripped bare now

its so dirty... the block, the head, the PISTONS (worse), my mind (not cleanable). All going to the engineering this week.

Will add some pics tonight when i get home. The before ones that is.

@ John H; ive seen and read about that machine in the jeep, i have also gotten a excel list witch describes it as a 1.7 chrysler block. I am, for the love my very small and slender wallet, hoping its just a good old 1984cc...

1.7l? That is strange when VW/Audi had a perfectly fine 1.6l in stock.

Curious about bore and stroke in that engine. With a shorter stroke, you have to have very long rods or a strange looking piston and with a narrow bore can´t the valves in the head open!? A cast crank is probably cheaper than a new head...
