Hi everyone, i'm a new member to the site and the 924 although this site has already helped me through countless fixes for my 77. I dont have much money to spend on the car (because it seems like every free penny is already going into fixes) i got the car for $1000 knowing i'd have some work ahead of me, it is my first car and im learning alot already. i've taken care of most of the important things.. gaskets and belts and so on have all been replaced as well as the starter and alternator. The person who had the car before me installed a stereo and in the process massacred the wiring throughout the car.. when i drove it home the first time i had no lights of any sort. It took me a few weeks to get it in shape for inspection but i finally got everything sorted out (for the most part, mind you) and now i'm moving on to some performance upgrades. it's got a new rear suspension Koni Yellow shocks, sway bars, still got the 4 lugs though but she handles like a dream.. now.. on to the real topic of discussion.. seeing as how i dont have much money to spend.. i'd like to get as much power out of it for as little as possible. I'm smart enough to know all the garbage about "electric superchargers" is just that, garbage. So i was wondering what you guys think about performance chips? do they provide a noticeable difference in power or torque or is it just a waste of money? I was thinking about getting one but i dont want to waste the money to no avail. Thanks in advance for the advice. _________________ Black '77 924 N/A |

In my experience chips on a normally aspirated engine are of slim benifit compared to a turbocharged engine, where power increase is quite noticeable. There are some reports of people actually loosing some hp after putting chips in na automobiles, so be careful what you buy.
If you are on a budget and want performance, there is no substitute for weight loss. Consider how bad you want your spare tire, back seat, carpet, ac system, stereo etc.

On my fathers GT3 RS and Shelby they've both had factory performance chips put in with a noticable difference.. obviously this vehicle is neither of those but i've felt the difference on those cars and it wasnt so much in hp and tq but how that hp and tq was delivered.. if i had a car like that it would be a no brainer but you guys know FAR more about the 924 than i do. Thanks for the advice. Of those who have acheived a gain on a turbo vehicle do you know what brand chip was used? _________________ Black '77 924 N/A |

A performance chip on your car would be a bigger waste of money than an electric supercharger. You have a mechanical injection system. The thing that appears to be a computer under your dash only controls the frequency valve and will not effect your performance in anyway. So in short, THERE IS NO CHIP FOR THESE CARS.
Look elsewhere, Audi throttle body is the cheapest one that comes to mind, but it doesn't really add power as much as it changes when the power kicks in. _________________ 1980 924 NA

| If you disslike the power level of your current 924 I would suggest selling it and buying a 924s. Same car, more power. The best of the bunch was the 88. Even by todays standards it was a very rapid 4cyl. |
