I have found a '79 dipstick which I want to use on a '77.0 924. Are there diferent sizes and is the '79 dipstick the same length as that of a '77.0. I've tried reading something about this, but can't find anything.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
~Frank |

It could be there is a difference between them:
—The earlier dipsticks stick out low, direct from the oil pan;
—Later on Porsche added the tube so the opening sits higher.
I'm not sure when this switch took place exactly.
The amount of oil in the oil pan didn't change though…
Have a look here: http://924board.org/viewtopic.php?t=33128
I'll update & bumb it later this evening by adding a more usefull image that will
allow you to take any oildipstick* and adjust it to the required 924 settings.
HTH

Hi Harm,
Thanks for sharing your knowledge. I thought that there were quite a few diferent sizes of dipsticks, but fortunately there aren't. It would be great to read how to make my own dipstick, though.
Thanks again,
~Frank
PS - I see your from Holland, I'm originally from Belgium, right next door. |

Greetings former neighbour.
You'll find the length/sizes in the other thread.
Visit a junkyard to find a replacement dipstick, a longer one that you can trim down and fits/blocks the hole correctly.
Apply new markings with an ironsaw/dremel to read the oil measurement.
You could also recheck the measurements/readings by refreshing the oil in the correct quantities.
Cheers. _________________ Porsche 924 NA 1982 LY7A/A3A3 _ Greater driving pleasure never harmed anyone. |
