helps if you remove the radiator if your going to do it that way so you have the clearance at the front of the motor, the torque tube is longer than you think. This way is the most likely to bend to torque tube if your not careful,

Also to drop the front swaybar, while I'm thinking about it - again, more room to move the engine forward. But yeah, that's the way to go.

Has anyone ever tried to lighten rods at home with a die grinder (going easy, of course), and balancing them to eachother with a scale? Thats kind of the route i want to take... I know i can do it i just want some imput

As Vaughan said you can balance the rods and pistons with a postal scale but if you start to actually lighten the pieces then you will need to also rebalance the crank because it is counter balanced for the heavier pieces. This cannot be done on a postal scale.

only down side to dropping the front cross member - you''ll need to get it re-aligned once it's all back in as you'll upset it all - you can try marking the position of the bolts for a budget best guess, but I'd recommend it at least get's checked.

I just spend £150 getting my 4 wheel alignment done only 1K miles ago so I've dropped the g'box and slid the t.tube back - the whole engine lifted straight out without removing the bell housing, alternator, starter motor etc etc I even left my thicker 944 turbo radiator in place - easy. The audi 5 speed gearbox is very simple to remove and the 4 speed even easier!!!

ROFLMAO

How true. And Todd knows what he is talking about too.

Also agree with Euro924S2`s post although dropping the Xmember is the easiest. You probably need a wheel align anyway unless it was recently done.

I have pulled two engines and did not drop the cross members.

I did pull the trans on one though.

Good luck!

Check out the bolt on articles and such.
