Greetings. I've been looking round this board for a while, so I thought I'd give a few details about my car/ride.
The car originally belonged to an artist living in Edinburgh, Scotland, and was sold to me by her partner, Gareth, who used to write for various parts of the Automotive and Porsche press (EVO, Porche GT), so I expected him to have more of a clue than the usual PO. The body is Ocean Blue, interior was full grey leather. Gareth had upgraded the car with 968 door handles, some rather snazzy instrument dials with glass instead of plastic, and a rear ARB/sway bar.
My plan was simple> To create a sleeper that was fun on track. I had owned faster cars before (911 3.2, TVR Cerbera), but on track, I always knew the car was faster than the driver. I had (have) a lot to learn.
So, I upgraded the TwoFour with the best bits I could find from the 924/944/968 ranges, and lightened it as much as I could, without loosing all commuting/daily driver practicality:
Engine: Promax fitted a 3L M44/41 from a 1990 944S2. Vitesse MAF and piggy back. SAR Classics/Janspeed cat-bypass muffler (did you know that the standard cat replacement mufflers by Porsche contain a restriction to 15MM to bring their back pressure to the same level as the CAT cars?). Engine has new valves, guides followers, piston rings but is otherwise standard. We fitted an electronic rev counter, and an oil temperature indicator instead of the clock. (This being a modern instrument, was so bright that it needed several resistors to blend in with the sartorial elegance of nearly dead Porsche instrument cluster lights
From a 944Turbo came the Gearbox (with cooler, pump and LSD), plastic 80 Liter tank, driveshafts, and rear four pot/piston Brembo brakes and standard 1986 944T disk/rotor, as well as a brake proportioning valve to make sure the rear was only a little over-braked. Just how I like it.
Lightening involved replacing front 924S callipers with the Travis Rennbay Willwood kit, a glass fibre bonnet/hood painted in body colour, a carbon fibre panel to replace the sun/moon roof. Spare wheel, much sound-deadening, rear seat-back, rear wiper & sliding sun/moon roof motors were removed. Seats were a 6.5 KG Recaro for driver, and the lightest Corbeau recliner for passenger side(I have a young son, and so car needs to fit three if necessary).
The leather interior didn't really go with the car's ethos, so when I ripped out the speakers/ICE/radio install, leather was sold. In came a Pasha interior (with no holes for speakers in door: an absolute mission to find..) Also I fitted a Sparco 380 MM steering wheel, so that I could see the instruments, and yet sit comfortably without a hint of Orang Utan.
Suspension consists of 968 non M030 front ARB/Sway bar, Weltmeister rear bar, and a KW V3 coil-over suspension adjustable for height, rebound and compression. Rear standard torsion bar was re-indexed to suit. Front adjustable top mounts are Racer's Edge. The set up is firm enough for track, yet driveable on the road.
Wheels are a bit of a work in progress. On the road I usually use 15x6 front Teledials, and 16x7 rears, all 52 MM offset. In the picture linked below, the car is wearing the 16x7 993 wheels I use on track, because I found a big fat screw in one of the rear tyres/tires. I'm still looking for the nirvana of ultra-light 16X6 fronts and 16x7 rears..
And now, since a thread is useless without pics..

I love it!
What brake valve do you have and where did you put it?
My 924s has front rennbay wilwoods and I have a pair of 951 brembos to put on the rear as well. _________________ 17in caymans, koni yellow coilovers, hypercoil springs, kla solid upper mounts, 968 sway bars, kla drop links, kla strut brace, fidanza flywheel, dansk catback, wilwood front calipers, ss brake lines, e-codes, 944 duckbill, manual rack, momo steering wheel |

I have the standard 5/18 valve, as fitted to 944 S2s and Turbos. We put it on the brake servo, the lines to the rear, you should just be able to see it on the back of the picture of the engine bay (along with lots of padding, as I do NOT want the brake pipes to rub/move, even in a quite severe impact!)
The Wilwood/951 Brembo combo works really well. Pads are dead easy to change, and I can outbrake a Lotus Elise on track (the sight of saloon cars that leave the braking as late as me on track & then go sailing past in a straight line is a joy to behold). The only "issue" is that the Wilwood caliper is small & light, as is the rotor/disk that it's sitting on. So it's critical that heat is managed: I run alloy front A arms, with a 968 wind deflector mounted to each. Otherwise, the pedal goes soft very quickly. |

Great! I already picked up a Turbo valve.
Did you need a Turbo rear line as well? I'm not sure there is enough room with my 924s brake line.
I run steel arms, but plan to add brake ducts of some kind. _________________ 17in caymans, koni yellow coilovers, hypercoil springs, kla solid upper mounts, 968 sway bars, kla drop links, kla strut brace, fidanza flywheel, dansk catback, wilwood front calipers, ss brake lines, e-codes, 944 duckbill, manual rack, momo steering wheel |

Sorry, I was hunting round for some pics..when we replaced the 924S steel tank with a 951 plastic one and re-indexed the rear torsion bar, OEM 951 brake and fuel lines were fitted throughout the car.
This was primarily because the fuel lines run on the other side of the body on a 924S, which was awkward for my M44/41 swap, and because the brake and fuel lines had seen 20 British winters. As we had the rear suspension off, fitting new 951 brake lines seemed a no-brainer.

I was afraid I needed the line too...
The 924 line is just too short. I wonder if it could be bent straight and extended with a short braided SS line.... _________________ 17in caymans, koni yellow coilovers, hypercoil springs, kla solid upper mounts, 968 sway bars, kla drop links, kla strut brace, fidanza flywheel, dansk catback, wilwood front calipers, ss brake lines, e-codes, 944 duckbill, manual rack, momo steering wheel |

Sort of like the Wilwood kit does it with the braided line up front..I can't see why not. |

Do you have more pictures or movie clips of the car? I bet you can take on 951's all day long. _________________ White 1987 Porsche 924S manual |

I'll dig up some pics from its trackdays: Mostly Silverstone and Goodwood. As for 951s, it depends on the track a better driver than me certainly could.
@pfgascoigne: Stripped out factory removable panel, motor and wiring. Bonded in carbon fibre panel. Weight loss, about 12 kg, most of it right at the highest point.. If you mean the OEM roof panel, it's sitting in the garage |
