Hi Everyone,
I'm loving my recently bought 924, and would be out in her all the time, but the inordinate fuel consimption means I just can't afford to. She's a 1983 924 2ltr, and I understand around 30MPG is what I should be able to get. At the moment however, it's more like 10-15MPG. With UK petrol prices as they are, this is killing me.
I'm no great shakes mechanically, but any suggestions as to where you think I should be looking/what I should be doing would be most welcome.
Thank you,
Jason.

A basic tune up will probably sort if it's running OK.
You need a Timing lights and CO meter.
Takes me about 20-30 mins including a cup of tea.

Thank you Rich H
As for Aussie924, the point is, I'm paying 2-3times more than I should be.. but it's currently around £1.15 per ltr here in the UK. |

No wonder my son catches trains and Busses all over the UK, do you still have to add the additive as well ie, like Valvemaster Lead Substitute ?

No additives needed in a 924 over here but the turbo likes to drink super petrol (97/98 RON) which is anything fron £1.20 ro £1.35 a litre (Motorway service stations it's more like £1.30/£1.50) _________________ 1994 Lotus Esprit S4 - Work in progress...

Poor alignment, and underinflated tires can also contribute to low fuel mileage.
-And poor fuel atomization due to worn/dirty injectors. _________________ "..it's made in Germany. You know the Germans always make good stuff."

Thanks to everyone who contributed.
In the end however it was something else.. The fuel supply was too rich. A small, forward facing screw on the engine block went a full 3 turns clockwise. The result is a smoother quieter engine noise, less grunt and power too:( and it stalls when idling sometimes, but I get 30MPG instead of 10-15 now, so I'm happy with that. |

Time to check your ignition timing, maybe vacuum leaks too... _________________ Vaughan Scott

$ 1.37 (98 ron) $1.27 for normal (93 ron)a litre hear in Cairns .Seems these days the pound only fetches the same in purchase value as the Aussie dollar. |
