Anyone gotten quotes lately on a basic policy for an 87-88 924s? I am wondering if the car is new enough that a regular company would be competitive, or if a specialty insurer like Hagerty would be better.
I am treating her like a project/ weekend car and don't plan on using it daily..... (yeah right). I'm 40 YO, male wih clean record and don't plan on driving her, more than 150 or so miles a month.... oh, I'm in the U.S. |

Newest vehicle we have is a 2001 F350 diesel pickup. That has full coverage.
Otherwise, the rest have cheap liability insurance, including the 924. Thru State Farm and one other outfit. _________________ '83 944 Track car.

Specialty Insurance is always going to be cheaper. If you can qualify the coverage from Leland West endorsed by the PCA is excellent.
This is what it currently costs me to cover each of my Porsches.
Stated Value $6,500 (The Insurance Company covers the car for a value you both agree on, protecting you against having more money in the car than Blue Book says it worth).
Combined Single Limit $300,000 (The Insurance Company covers you to the agreed on maximum payout, broken up into as many or few pieces as necessary to cover claims, unlike most basic policies at say 15/30/5 ($15K per person, $30K per accident, $5K property damage)).
Policy Limit Maximum can meet but cannot exceed the Insurance Policy Limit on your Daily Driver Vehicle. Proof of Ownership of Daily Driver and Insurance Policy on other car required.
No coverage for speed events.
Covers the car, contents, and spare parts, whether they are on the car or off. Covers cars whether they are licensed and registered or non-op in your garage or at a restoration shop.
Must be parked in a stated location garage overnight.
Limited to 5K miles per year, other mileage limits available.
Must be a secondary car.
Driver/Owner must be over 25 YO. No tickets and no chargable accidents since 1994.
About $220 a year. Agreed on Value is $6500.
I don't know how much you know about the cost of cars, and car repairs, but very few cars cost less than $5k to repair or to replace. A 5 year old Honda has a Blue Book of over $5K. Staying with the Honda example, with Basic or Minimum Insurance, if you were driving and had an at fault accident, you would be on the hook for the amount over $5K, if the Honda was totaled or repair cost exceeded $5K (replacement airbags cost $3K for a stinking 15 year old Ford Taurus, not counting the broken windshield, and all other body damage). I've been told that my ex-wife's Insurance Company just paid $7300 to the Owner of the (about) 1993 Honda Accord that my son was in an accident with. See what I mean? |

I just bought coverage tonight as 2nd car with Progressive, bare minimum in Ohio adds $8 for 6-month bill. $16 a year, I was pretty surprised. |
