Its only been three weeks or so since I sold my red '77 and I miss having a project already. But the gods have smiled upon me(while laughing and snickering I assume ) since I was given the blue-ish '80-something n/a the guy I bought the '77 from was also storing at my mothers house.
The Car:
The interior is shot and the engine doesnt run due to a suspected ignition problem. I havent tinkered with it yet as its 2 hours away, but I did check it out a little before it was given to me. The body is pretty straight and i know that the sunroof does not leak.(thought of stealing the gaskets from this sunroof to fix the '77s at one point) And it comes with a second engine that he has sitting in the shop at his work.
The Plan:
I've been told that I can leave it where it sits at my mothers indefinitely, so that makes things easier as I move around alot being in the military. This means That I have more time to research and gradually aquire parts as there is no rush to move it when I transfer out of Ct next year.
So, heres some thoughts I had on where to go with this project:
General:
* 5 lug suspension upgrade
* upgrade brakes
* make or buy GT style bucket lights
* bodywork/fiberglass panels
* euro bumpers
* EFI
* re-run wiring/upgrade electricals
* saratoga top(hard to find but I want one )
* adjustable sport seats
Engine:
This is where I have to do the most research and really need the expertise of the board. Since I have an engine already out I see this as an opportunity for a complete rebuild and maybe some upgrades....but where to go with it?
I was even tossing around the idea of a supercharger since I'll have the opportunity to upgrade the internals, but again...aside from reading the worklogs of board members(thanks ideaola for compiling links to most of the worklogs in one location) I dont know too much about forced induction.
So....what should I do with this car?
She's essentially a blank slate with no time limit on getting it on the road. _________________ "Kraut cars, they know how to build 'em".
