If you were going to DIY your own dash, what method have you, or would you do. What products would you use?
For example:
Strip off the cracked dash material, lay down some expanding poly foam, sand, and layer bed liner, then sand smooth and reapply?
Or maybe instead of roll on bedliner, try to stretch some sort of fabric across the dash?
My dash is out, and I'm going to attempt to recover it in some way shape or form. I know there are a lot of attempts (and successful ones at that!) but I'd like to gather all the solutions into one thread. The more detail the better. Also pictures are a benefit! _________________ [This Space For Rent] |

As an alternative to the spray can expanding foam - could go with Gorilla glue, or an equivalent polyurethane glue from another maker.
Dribble it into the cracks and watch it foam up as it dries (if you have nothing better to do). _________________ "..it's made in Germany. You know the Germans always make good stuff."

I've seen several examples of dashes that have been sanded, filled with expanding poly foam, sanded again and then covered with leather or vinyl. I really like that look.
I'm not too crazy about the carbon fiber look on 924 dashes. I mean, it looks cool, but I don't think it looks appropriate on a car as old as a '79 924. Personally, I'd rather go with something that looks period correct.

So do u tear the old vinyl off the dash or start sanding the original dash surface? _________________ [This Space For Rent] |

Yea by diving in an jus starting sanding start rough then switch to a finer grit and youll get a smooth surface, you can even feather the plastic skin into the foam. _________________ 1979 porsche 924 Na

A complete new one formed to the original shape out of 1/16th aluminum.

Ive been pondering the same thing... no answers yet, just pondering the question...
Though using a large truck rubber inner tube has occurred to me.... _________________ Eric
