So I found a 1989 951 locally that is in mint shape, great colour etc. but it's an automatic ! Anybody here have experience with re & re of a 951 transaxle ? I would be looking to swap it for either a 968 6-speed or a 951 5-speed. Sorry for the OT post but I know you guys and before I drop the dough I would like the opinions of good,hands-on people. Thanks guys.

I didn't know they made an auto turbo. I was told by someone, maybe a unicorn, that the 951 came only in the 5 speed flavor.

My wife would LOVE a 951 turbo automatic.

968 six speeds are pricey. But either one of the trannies will botl up. I think you would need:

Clutch
pressure plate
slave cylinder
clutch pedal
shift linkage

I've got a 951 5 speed for sale if you're interested. I'm sure that the shipping would be crazy though.

you need to take everything apart...you need pedals...controls...gearbox...clutch...shifter...linkage...maybe modification of the car body where the shifter is..

imo thats a no go.

Yeah, never heard of an automatic turbo. Maybe it was n S2 that they swapped a turbo motor in to?

If it is truly a 951 auto it would be worth some money on rarity alone..

Yea like nien says they didnt make one.. though it nust be truely a rarity.

You should get the numbers and check them to see if it truely did come
with the auto..or if some1 else did it..

Like Flosho if it is like a one off deal.. that would be bucks.

They did not make an automatic 951. If there ever has been one it would have to be someones mod.

Then thats a good thing- no need to runover all those numbers..
now back to the thread. Sounds like your looking at a big job even if
it always was a auto car.

Oh Christ....the ad said the car was an auto when in fact, yes,it was a 5 speed. I should have known. Been out of the loop for too long. Thanks for the replies though guys. I called him and he tells me it's a 9.5 out of 10 yada yada yada so Khal and I drive 4 hours each way to find out it's maybe a 6 out of 10. To make a long story short the car was imported from Japan in '06 by some punk that modified it and put some POS boom system in it,added some shitty gauges into some holes in the otherwise perfect dash and then crashed it in both front and back. What a shame. God I hate people that lie trying to sell cars. F'ing scumbags. Well that's $100 in gas money i'll never get back....

THey never tell the whole truth about ads, say in Craigslist, unless you ask all the questions. We drove 2hrs one way thursday to look at used Fir flooring that was in 'excellent' condition. Nope. Not even close, drove home with an empty trailer. No more driving unless pictures are included in ad, and then some. grrrrrrr.

Some people aren't lying, they are just ordinaary people who know NOTHING about cars. I went to look at a car one time that a guy had obviously repainted himself and it was fish-eyed and orange peeled beyond anything I've ever seen before. It was almost as if he sprayed the primer layer down with Armorall just prior to shooting the paint. I said "So, been repainted huh?" The guy responds "Yeah, you don't get a shine like that on original paint!" Some people are just plain dumbasses.
