Mangled my fan belt today and on examination I see the forward lug has separated from the engine block.
I have suspected for some time that it was not all present there as there is a number of rubber washers and they appear to be breaking up.
I can also see no sign of a nut for the bolt to go into and thinking back on it I suspect that I have been tightening the bolt into the rubber washers as it had a rubbery feeling to it.
I am still surprised that the car does not come with a proper alternator adjuster as every other car seems to have.
Question is: can an adjuster be fitted from another car to improve matters?
Also can someone sell me a complete top forward bolt with complete set of rubber washers and a nut? _________________ Steve

What do you mean by the "forward lug"? The bolt at the top that the alternator hangs from/swings on?
Do you have a pic of the bolt you are talking about?
There is an adjuster bracket near the bottom of the alternator _________________ 1983 924 NA

does the '79 cars have the alternator on top or the bottom? If top, I might have 931 parts that may work. Got pics? _________________ '83 944 Track car.

The rubber inserts and washers are easy from a VW dealer. Nothing special about the bolt other than it's only threaded on the end portion. Getting the nut on takes a minute of playing but after that a spanner will hold it while you turn the head.
The adjuster is easy with a wooden pry bar to tension the belt and then spin up the lower locking nut & bolt.
But your correct there should be an easy way to adjust it. _________________ '78 924 NA with Collector plate

The rubber mounting bushings were superceeded by Porsche to poly/plastic bushings which have proved to be very long-lived back close over 25 years ago.
If you have the orginal black rubber bushings they died and should have been replaced 25 years ago. Either that, or somebody's been buying generic aftermarket parts from aftermarket suppliers for a long, long, time. |

Wow have I been in the woods or something... I still have the rubbers and they are still good. But replaced about 10 years ago. At least they are firm. Which can be a good measurement of many things ! LOL _________________ '78 924 NA with Collector plate
