juat awaiting postage cost confirmation then im gonna be buying my new spray gun to colour coat/clear coat the car

Sick of using cheap no brand guns with bad spray patterns

Iwata AZ3 HTE
Best good brand spray gun i could find for the price
was also looking at sata and devilbiss
Major benefit

1) 79-84% transfer efficiency
2)Iwata reputation
3) Only 7CFM needed!
4)around $160 aud delivered ($74 GBP to buy) one good thing about the pound being weak

For things like fit and finish... you're going to want to have quality gear.
This sprayer looks the bees knees and is a good price to boot.

my first sprayer was absolute crap..its best setting gave me a jelly bean shape pattern.. at first i thought it was me being new then i looked at the nozzles and they werent symmetrical!..one side was drilled way different to the other hence the bad pattern.

All reviews and recommendations on the net point to devilbiss, sata or iwata...then within those they point to things like the
iwata w400, devilbiss GTi and sata 90...all these guns are $400 up!!
mine is the healthy compromise

80% transfer efficiency more paint on car and less in my lungs/garage

im gonna spray my black suzuki for practice first that should help me dial in good settings and get use to the gun before hitting toofah

I have to say that if you will be painting more than just your car, you'll want to invest in Devilbiss or Sata. Thats all we use at our shop and I have never had a problem. I know that they are not cheap but the saying that you get what you pay for is sooooooo true. I'm sure that you know what you're doing, however I recommend a seperate gun for clear coat. Let me know how it turns out.

agreed on a separate gun for clear coat, but as far as devilbiss or sata go, iwata is up there on the same level. It is the best gun i could possibly get for the price range, It took me weeks of review reading on all brands before settling with the iwata. Ask different painters what their favourite brand of gun is and youll get different answers, general consensus is that you cant really go wrong with any of those three major brands. The extra $400$600 hundred ide spend on a top of the line sata i could use for a decent air compressor. Our biggets problem painting in brisbane is humidity..causes some major blushing, slower thinners is the key.

Buying a good spray gun is not the only thing that matters in order to get a good paint job. You will have to look at the type of paint being applied and ensure that the nozzles, needles etc are adequate and fit for the material.

One also has to take care of air pressure coming out from the compressor, too much or too little air will ruin the paint job.

You will also have to take note if metallics or any other type of metalic based paints are to be applied. Be sure to continue the coat applied since any intervals here might make the colour look brighter or darker if using metallic paints. Also if metallic paints are used try not to put on over spray onto the next panel since a harsh unpleasnat result might be visible.

I would advise that if metallics are used the paint be constantly stirred so that any metalic flakes will not settle down in the paint conatiner, I would also if your budget affors it purchase a fan type stirer which is attached to the inside of your gun and keeps the paint in motion , also so that no flake settles in the paint container , especially if you are using a gravity gun.

When applying the 2 k laquer , too close a gun will result in the laquer having a whitish effect, too away from the panel will result in unpleasant harshness finish, therefore test paint before you apply. Air pressure is very important here too.

Take all precautions as to filters to the gun, filter the paint well, believe me you will be surprised what comes out with the paint sometimes. also inspect your air compressor for water in the system, a water filter will do the job here. This might sound funny but be sure that your compressor can withhold enough air for you to carry on with 1 full coat without exhausting itself to re-fill with air, this might cause a loss of pressurre at the gun and cause undesireable finished paint.

But before all this one has to take great care that the prep work is satisfactory, believe me you wont regret spending some extra time preparing the car for the paintwork if you want a good pro job finish.

Just shoot it and be happy with DIY results. Even rattle cans with enough thin coats can be cut back and polished to satisty the average DIY bod.

Good luck, I'm sure it will come out great!

Just sprayed my suzuki sierra for practice with the new gun..results

WOW VERY VERY HAPPY!

the prepaint bodywork certainly wasnt up to professional standard but it was just a quick job before selling her.
Lots of bumps and dents and uneven body filler but the gun laid down the paint beautifully!

NOT 1 single RUN !...paint was a semi satin jet black..

Happy to hear that scorpio, now you need to practice on filling those dents and warps properly with body filler etc. You need to give this attention if you want a good job. Just some friendly advice.
