Look closely. I missed it at first glance, then realized that pulling up to the pumps would no longer be an issue.

Stay tuned! We may actually make it to a track!

they let you race with the gas tank like that? no metal bulkehead seperating the driver from the fuel? wow

Metal bulkhead is mandatory and not fabbed up yet. Also, we've gotta swap out those teflon seals. As Scotty says, 90% done, 90% left to go.

Surprised they allow clamp-on connections for the fuel lines. Most sanctioning bodies demand AN- screw-ons only with stainless sheathing... Might want to consider that anyway for safety's sake!

Well, while I was off entertaining the good citizens of Alberta with the band, Mandy and Scotty finished the car. These first pics are from the weekend of July 16 and 17, during which, in an all-nighter, M&S ran out of everything but cheap, thick, red paint and a good sense of humor.

Everyone starts out fresh as a daisy. Note the gleam of intent and dedication in the eyes.

What did I do with those keys?

Well, this worked for the Dukes of Hazzard, right?

We didn't think Darrell (whoever he may be) would miss these. Compare the look here to my face when I rebuilt the wrong caliper. Similar? Fools seldom differ...

What's a story without a mood shot?

Time and date stamp, thank you!

Pumpkin about to become Princess.

'nuff said.

Why are we smiling?

Ritalin fogger.

Princess unmasked... (Princess removing masking?)

I'll post some more tomorrow and tell the tale of how Scotty won the day!

Excellent job on the pics Slam. Thank you for saving these memories in the ether for the rest of time! As Scotty and I would say Veni Vedi Veci! And how!

When last we left our indefatigable and well-meaning but basically clueless gang, they'd sadly had to go in two separate directions: half the crew on a gig to the teeming metropolis of Edson Alberta to spread the Tabasco Cat musical mange and half the crew to the urban garage-cum-paint shop. When the fur and the overspray cleared it was time to get the car to (drum roll and gasps of incredulity please!) THE RACE TRACK!

Princess models the latest in bulging curved fenders and racy apparel. Scotty tells everyone she belongs to him but the truth is she's communal property and the result of group effort. (I'm talking about the car, people!) Those wheels we got for $35!

Cockpit awaits...

Mason pees on the tire for luck...

...and then channels the Teutonic Race Gods. Note the shirt.

With all 110hp shrieking, knuckles white and nards drawn up tight, Scotty passes his opponent!

Apologies to all, but this was the best pic of the trophy I had at time of writing. Better ones are floating around out there, though, and I'll find 'em. But talk about the perfect ending to Chapter One!

In true Porsche fashion, our car won because the Mustang broke. Also, our car was one of the very few actually ready to race that day (July 24), proving the old adage that showing up is half the battle. Sadly, the band was gigging in Edmonton this night and Rog and I missed the race, but we're on again on Aug 14.

Scotty's last words as he took the flag: "Get me a bloody turbo and shorter gears!!!"

Those are such great pictures! We need a better camera however to take even better pictures.

Well, peeps, the season is over (remember: Canada's summer only lasts 3 days) and we did very well, considering. Scotty hauled down a 1st , a 2nd and a 3rd (the car placed in every race), and now the car's on its way back to my shop for a well-earned rest. In the spring we'll swap the rear suspension and put in a dogleg tranny.

I didn't get to see the car race once! Tabasco Cat was gigging EVERY SINGLE RACE DAY! With any luck, next summer will see more congruent scheduling. In the meantime, Scotty's gotta replace the hood on his Honda - it blew off while he was on his way to see us gig this weekend.

Sic transit gloria mundi... et sequitur ad nauseam. (Eh?)
