I picked up a 1987 924s a little while ago and I am having some minor issues that I hope someone can help me with.
First: The heater is always blowing warm air. The temp controls are all turned to cool or off and it still blows hot air. I do not have A/C unit.
Is there a way to disable the climate controls all together?
Second: Does anyone have reference shots of the sunroof open? It looks like there are some clips that slide into the sunroof from the top at the back to hold it in place and they are retracted. Is there a switch that should slide these into the sunroof to lock it into place?
I am having a hard time finding shots of the sun roof opened or removed.
I am a newbie poster and Porsche owner and sadly just getting into mechanics.
I am having a hard time finding decent materials on parts other than parts drawings that don't seem to help me much and any and all help is greatly appreciated.

sunroof switch is located forward left of the gearshift. Be warned, troubleshooting the sunroof system can be quite complicated, as there are several travel switches, and problems with the plastic gears stripping is all too common. Clarks has a good writeup on fixing the sunroof, but the setting of the slip clutch is overly complicated. I just backed it off till it slipped and did not raise the roof, then I tightened it maybe 1/4 turn. You want it to grip just enough to raise the weight of the roof. Any more and you risk stripping your gears and they are 10 bucks each.

Whereabouts in Canada are you? It's bigger than Hawaii...

As to your cabin heat issue, a quick cure would be to locate the heater control valve in the engine compartment and close it. If you trace the hard pipe that runs along the exhaust manifold you'll come to a coolant hose that goes into the firewall. Right beside that will be where it appears to come back out of the firewall. On that hose you'll find a black (and white) plastic valve with a cable attached to it. You can close it manually if you can squeeze a hand in there. HTH

if I read you guys correctly, are you saying all 924 with a roof should be electric?
I have a roof on my 79 924 and was sure it was just a big piece you remove entirely or leave there...now you are saying I have a motor somewhere to you use like a regular sunroof?
My interior was in bad shape and don't have a switch that seems to operate the roof aside from 1 home made switch that didn't do anything when i tried it.

No, the early cars did not have electric sunroofs. In the US market, the only early 924 2.0L-based cars that came with electric sunroofs might have been the very latest production run of the 1982 model year. The 2.0L cars continued production for ROW markets thru 1985, and many of those got the electric sunroof as an option. The 1986-88 924S with the 2.5L motor pretty much all had electric sunroof (unless they were the "SE" version in '88 with factory sunroof delete).

So your 1979 did NOT come with electric sunroof.

I have a 1983 944 with a sunroof that has latches in the rear as well as the front and no motor or lift cable. It is the only one like I have seen.

I crawled up under the dash to see if I could figure out the heating problem, no joy. Looks like spaghetti up there. Ill take another look and see if I can take Slam's advice (btw I am in Ottawa Canada).

I removed the sunroof completely tonight as well. The sun roof doesn't raise or lower. I have 2 clips that are retracted into the roof that look like they slide out and lock the roof in place.

The switch in front of the stick- if I have the key in the ignition and push the button to the back position, I can hear what sounds like a motor running, but when I push the switch forward I do not hear the motor.

I did manage to locate the sunroof motor assembly in the trunk. From what it looks like it would be a "late model 944" version.

Not sure how to post pics in the form, and not sure if I described things accurately.

Pic #2 - cable should be on other side of box, in passenger's well IIRC.

I actually got a hand on the plastic lever but I couldn't move it. I didn't want to force it for fear of breaking it, plus I wasn't sure which way I should try to move it. It seemed like the cable attached to the arm ran back into the body and is held securly there and I wasn't sure if it is intended to move.

Would this happen to be the part?

Wanted to thank everyone for their help, greatly appreciated.
I got the heater off and the sunroof locked in place. Driving is much more enjoyable with both resolved!
