I've been searching around for a couple days now and can't find any real info on the Audi transaxles used in the 924 and 944. I'm looking for torque capacity specs of the 924 N/A 5 speed, the 931 5 speed, the 944 N/A 5 speed and the 951 5 speed. Again, this is only for the Audi 5 speeds, not the snail shells.

I really just want to know how much torque they can each handle and I haven't been able to dig that up. Does anybody have any leads?

I just found that about 5 minutes ago. It figures I'd find some info after posting here.

Of course, he doesn't get into actual torque capacity. He says the 924 N/A should be about the same strength as the 944 N/A, but not how strong they are in absolute terms.

I think my current plan is just to run the stock N/A transaxle until it breaks and then save up for a 951 transaxle.

If you search around a bit in the turbo conversion threads you'll find some info. If I remember correctly it's mentioned that the stock 924 NA drive train with the 5-speed Audi, is capable of handling a turbo'ed NA engine up to around 200-220 HP. Can't remember the torque figure though.

Harold, you have other options as well, at a farm near you! I have 3 n/a trannies, free for the asking.

My search fu must be weak. I haven't been able to figure out the search terms to find that.

I'm probably going to end up with more than 220 hp when I'm done. I'd rather not go blasting about how awesome my car is going to be this early in the game just in case I end up like 99% of the people that do that on the forums, but the goal is higher than that.

That's what I hear! I'm not really looking at going to a 4-speed. Of course, if it turns out the N/A won't hold, I may take all 3 just to hold me over until I can save up for a 951 unit. :)

I guess what bugs me is I'm more used to dealing with T5s where you can look up gear ratios and torque capacity with the tag number. Other transmissions seem to be a lot harder to nail down in that regard other than word of mouth.
