Hey forum 1 year new be 924 owner and i have just recently resurrected my 78 924 and it has a hot start problem. I have seen this question before but it seems as if i cant find the thread anymore as it was some time ago i read about it. Well this car runs pretty good for a car which sat for 7 or maybe more years fixed clean and rebuilt it up. today we drove it for about 45 min around town ran sweet shifted nice lol im 16 and it put a big smile on my face but got home parked it and i was going to adjust the idle. Cranks nothen theirs spark, fuel? WTF javascript:emoticon('')3 hours later two cranks BOOM starts any help i read about the switch but any in-depth details about that or other problems.
Sorry i talk alot but im shure its a hot start problem any comments or info would be awesome thanks.

hi,
yeah everyone has hot start problems....basically anything which can cause a pressure leak in the fuel system = hot start problem. So once the car gets old, the problem will grow gradually from the sum of all the little things (poor o-rings, diaphragms, valves, etc).

Changing the wur made a big difference for my hot start. I can always start the car easily now, but it will still sputter for some seconds when starting hot on a summer day.

One thing that has virtually eliminated the hot start on SONIC, as reported in the above-linked thread: When the car is hot, press the gas pedal all the way to the floor and HOLD IT. Then insert the key and start. This procedure is recommended in my 1981 owner's manual, and it works 99% of the time.

Or you could replace the fuel accumulator. No hot start problems here...

Although don't put in a used but looking-good accumulator. They burst at the most inopportune time. Mand's mom and I had done a tune-up on her 924 and found the car just pissing fuel when we restarted. Turns out the accumulator was shot. So I pulled one out of a wreck here - it showed NO sign of leaking but failed when she was in the middle of Saskatchewan (read: nowhere). Lesson learned.

thanks ideola ill try that. so if fuel is coming out the bottom of one of the fuel accumulators does that indicate they are bad? or allowing fuel to drain into tank causing the hot start problem. i just sealed the bottom of the accumulator with a o ring.

If the accumulator leaks, it's bad and needs to be replaced.

What you describe are classic symptoms of the hot-start problem. Your fuel accumulator leaks. That's the number one cause of the hot-start problem. Stopping the fuel coming out of the accumulator does not fix it.

Several ppl here have indicated that you need a new accumulator. Change the TTS and WUR if you like, but really you should save your cash for a new fuel accumulator.

Is your name Tim, by any chance...?

+1^

TTS affects cold start, not hot start. WUR might be problem, but the accumulator is more likely, and the only way to know for sure with the WUR is to use a proper CIS Tester.

Take a look in the Haynes. I believe there's a cut-away view in there that will show you why sealing the bolt against leaks will do no good as far as the accumulator doing what it was designed to do. If there's a tear in the rubber bladder, the spring won't hold the pressure the way it should and will contribute to a hot start problem.
